There's little wrong with aurelio, he's fairly solid, has some very good games, some less good games and as someone else said, he contributes to the team.

Some people might be looking and Torres, Gerrard and Mascherano and falling into the trap of thinking you need world class players in every single position, in order to succeed. That's plainly nonsense, i dont know any team with a world class player in every position, it's not realistic.

Aurelio's a good player and he was a free transfer, excellent piece of business.

That's a good balanced post mates.

      I echo your sentiments.

My main concern with Aurelio is his fitness, he is always going to have problems so i don't feel he will ever fully establish himself as first choice left back - When we signed him I remember hearing problems about injuries and i'm sure there was some stats that backed this up, something like he never managed more than like 25 games a season at valencia. (can't remember exact number.)

I kinda agree with the original poster - he is very average. If he was capable of playing more than 5 games in a row, he might find some form and improve and become a good player for us, but as others have pointed out every time he looks like he is going to find form he picks up a knock. I'd keep him, unless of course we signed evra and clichy and sold aurelio and dossena.

Instead of responding to the spirit you erroneously believe the post was made, try responding with what you consider are his footballing strengths.

Opinion is clearly divided. I don't expect people en masse to agree with my viewpoint, but at least stick to the issue under debate.
Does calling him ordinary six times without reasoning your complaint constitute an analysis of his footballing abilities ?

I think not, but to answer your comments in a fashion you may understand

                  Left foot: Good
                  tackling: Good
                  defending: Good
attacking: Good (being generous here as he's a defender first)
                  Free kicks: Very Good

He is Good, and is improving all the time and may soon become Very Good.

degen would do well to be judged ordinary as opposed to just invisible.

He is ordinary. This isn't enough.
I think you are being kind. He is below average and no where near as good as Finan. Arbeloa is just as bad. And dont get me started on Lucas!! He is shocking

his free kicks are so good he might even get one on target in 2009.

I like him but I'd rather Rafa took the FKs..

I think when he says free kicks he means not only direct shots on goal, but delivery into the box. His direct FKs are indeed ****, but often his delivery is top class.
