you should really read the sentence in full. masch is a defensive midfielder and in a team with lots of attacking options he brings balance, its not the same in a liverpool team. playing for the national team masch appears to be more dynamic, is this because he is or because of the quality around him?

didi scored goals, doesn't matter if it was 1 or 11 he had it in his locker. masch doesn't as of yet.

now before people start i'm not having a go at the lad. i think he's a very good player but i think he's nowhere near a complete central midfielder. i actually think like for like essien is better for instance.

I think he's been disappointing of late. Performance levels have dropped. He's even giving away stupid fouls on a regular basis

I did and i take your point but to pick out masherano for a bit of flak is pretty funny.

you may as well have a pop at gerrard and Torres as well.

True. Was much better against West Brom than he has been in many of the recent games (although Alonso has been less than excellent defensively of late too).

Masch has pace to burn. He makes tackles and interceptions that Didi would never have been able to. Loved Kaiser but IMO Masch will surpass him as a midfielder in the next couple of years. I think Masch has the potential to be the best DM in the world.

                    i wasn't having a pop i just don't think he's the complete central midfielder

i do think that he'll never have the attacking attributes of an essien but the way we play i reckon he's role will be to cover for the attacking fullbacks so i'm not really concerned about this 'shortcoming' in his game.

Fair enough. I agree although he's not too bad going forward by any means. pacy little fella.

do you think chelsea's 'new' style has a place for a makelele? or does it need an essien who as you say is just as accomplished going forward?

He has played like this all the time for Argentina.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Essien is a 1 in 10 goal scorer. He's not really all that as an attacking force. In his new role and when he's not playing against Xabi, I think he could be as influential.
