Thing is it was exactly the same for the last England game where Terry didn't play though injury yet he played the following weekend for Chelsea and **** all was said about it, whereas Gerrard missed the Croatia game as he had AN OPERATION yet the media were all over it when he came on against the Mancs the following game.

    Pricks.
What are the odds that both of them will be fit for Aston Villa? Which is just normal for me, if he players are doubtful they SHOULD NOT be considered for national duty. Doubtful because of pressure, tiredness or injury, I don't care.

If national coaches tried harder to protect the players this wouldn't be an issue.

So Capello has told Gerrard to report to England HQ anyway so he can be assessed by their medical team to see if there's actually a problem.

        Absolutely ridiculous.

Is there a contractual obligation to play for England?

I suppose he could just not turn up but I'd have thought he valued his international career too much for that.

Still, if he's being hauled in front of Capello then anyone else who was ruled out should also go. Rio and Rooney have had an extra few days recovery time, after all.

I believe that it is a FIFA regulation and if you fail to turn up for the assessment it is punishable by a ban. Remember the fuss when Makelele wanted to retire from France?

I can in some ways see why Capello is keep for everyone to take England seriously but there needs to be some sort of accommodation reached for the benefit of all top players about international friendlies.

By the way Terry reports this morning suggest Terry had to report re: his injury too. Appears that Capello at least has a consistent policy - i.e. if you play at the weekend he wants an assessment. I wish they would send trusted doctors to the club in question rather than making Gerrard travel to Watford for the check up though.

That would be logical if the player is injured. Thing is about the policy, he should check on Rio and Rooney as well then, I am pretty sure they will able to play next weekend. Fergie was just resting them for a tough game against Aston Villa. Bwah, this is silly.

fair play to liverpool/rafa/gerrard - and **** off england - whether he is injured or not, if he doesn't or his club doesn't want him to play in a ****ing friendly then he shouldn't, **** them - at this stage of a season a week off would be a godsend to the players and i bet you gerrard is thinking "i could do with a nice week off, relax with the family etc" rather than joining up with an england squad and force himself through another 90mins that just seem pointless.

Listening to talk sport this morning was funny - that belter mike parry was literally having a fit. As mentioned here, he never spoke of rooney, ferdinand or anyone else pulling out of the squad - just gerrard and how it was a disgrace etc etc - que loads of liverpool fans emailing/texting in along the lines off "we are scouse, england can do one" and "united have done this for years, ryan giggs pulled out of every wales friendly but was never ordered to turn up" and "capello can **** off and leave gerrard alone"

It's amazing how many people really don't like england - to be fair to them, even the mancs seem to be the same as us and don't give a **** about the national team.

Hopefully gerrard just turns round a nd refuses to go

all we need is torres to pull out and tell spain to **** off too.

What was that about then? I don't recall.

Basically Makelele wanted to retire but the coach of France picked him any way. In the end Makelele had to play for France or face a ban from all football for some period of time. There was much gnashing of teeth and accusations of him being 'treated like a slave'.

                            Thats farcical.

You shouldn't be obliged to represent your country.

i totally agree, regarldess of this current situation with gerrard and torres etc etc - it should be up to the player and all parties involved (the player, the club and the national team) should be mature enough to sort it out. If a player doesn't want too, or feels they can't play for the national team then it should just be resolved easily.

I'd love it, ****ing love it if Gerrard just came out and said - the reason i can't play is i have a bit of a pull in my leg, I could really do with a week off to rest it, so i can get myself 100% fit for liverpools next game as we are doing well in the league and I want that to continue, so I can't play for england!
