Personally. Knowing alcholics and former alcholics (I know, they are still alcoholics) he has fallen off the wagon with all the **** that is going on around him personally and proffesionally and he needs support imo.
Quite. Some on here would probably say because he's a footballer and earns stupid money he doesn't have a right to be unhappy / or have issues.

I felt really sorry for him when that story about his Dad broke and I feel sorry for him now.

He should probably move on from Liverpool FC but for footballing reasons. Leave his private life out of it.

I dont see what the problem is. He's a 25 year old man enjoying a night out, ok the picture doesn't do him any favours but it's not as if he's smashing the bottle over someone's head or anything.
I sometimes get the feeling people want to see him **** up because of his past rep. I for one was worried when we signed him because of his previous but to be fair i've been pleasantly surprised at how well he's behaved himself during his Liverpool career.

Yes, but the Daily Mail are hardly going to blow a story up out of all proportion in the hope of stoking up a load of moral indignation, are they?

He should not be swigging a bottle of JD in public. What kind of example does that set the kids? FFS.

Especially given his current status as an out of favour player looking to get back in the team. I really hope someone comes in ifor him n January and puts him out of his 25k a week misery.

              1) It's perfectly legal
              2) What sort of kids are going to be seeing him outside a nighclub in the early hours?

He might be working his bollocks off in training for all you know.

                1) Thats not the point.

                2) These picture are now on the internet and media so kids will see them

Oh, and according to Xabi Alonso he is the worst trainer at the club, albeit that was said tongue in cheek. Believable though.

                Get rid.

Kids see a lot worse than this all the time. All this "role model" crap is just right-wing political correctness.

It's OK for the Bullingdon Club to go around drinking heavily and smashing stuff but if a footballer from a working-class home is outside swigging from a bottle of whisky then it's a national disgrace and a threat to our children (who elsewhere are demonized by the very same people).

Don't fall for such hypocritical horse****, mate.
                  .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Somehow i don't think so as he'd surely be in the first team week in week out

Exactly my point. So that means its no big deal right? Wrong IMO.

He is a public figure in an industry idolised by kids. The Bullingdon Club is not.

                        Hope you understand my point.

I could train harder than the entire team but I doubt I would get to play.

Also, he didn't ask to be pictured outside this club, some parasite took the moment to broadcast this to the poor kids.

Shame he didn't have a jumper with "Drinking is ace and helps you achieve your dreams" whilst doing a crankies thumbs up to the pap

No, I don't see your point or rather I don't think it's correct.

When I was growing up Jimmy Greaves, George Best and quite a few others used to play pissed. Funnily enough I never did. (And of course neither has Jermaine Pennant).

Of course one difference is that newspapers didn't publish photos of their indiscretions, accompanied by fake moral indignation, all for the sake of a cheap headline, better circulation and so, their ultimate goal, more advertising revenue.

So if anyone is endangering our young it's the jackals who publicise behaviour which is well within the bounds of normality, even if it isn't exactly the most edifying or advisable.

The idea that we should hold footballers to account for their perfectly legal behaviour but ignore and even indulge the criminal antics of would-be leaders of our country is breathtakingly skewed.
