Personally. Knowing alcholics and former alcholics (I know, they are still alcoholics) he has fallen off the wagon with all the **** that is going on around him personally and proffesionally and he needs support imo.

I dont see what the problem is. He's a 25 year old man enjoying a night out, ok the picture doesn't do him any favours but it's not as if he's smashing the bottle over someone's head or anything.
I sometimes get the feeling people want to see him **** up because of his past rep. I for one was worried when we signed him because of his previous but to be fair i've been pleasantly surprised at how well he's behaved himself during his Liverpool career.

I could train harder than the entire team but I doubt I would get to play.

No, I don't see your point or rather I don't think it's correct.

When I was growing up Jimmy Greaves, George Best and quite a few others used to play pissed. Funnily enough I never did. (And of course neither has Jermaine Pennant).

Of course one difference is that newspapers didn't publish photos of their indiscretions, accompanied by fake moral indignation, all for the sake of a cheap headline, better circulation and so, their ultimate goal, more advertising revenue.

So if anyone is endangering our young it's the jackals who publicise behaviour which is well within the bounds of normality, even if it isn't exactly the most edifying or advisable.

The idea that we should hold footballers to account for their perfectly legal behaviour but ignore and even indulge the criminal antics of would-be leaders of our country is breathtakingly skewed.
