Of course one difference is that newspapers didn't publish photos of their indiscretions, accompanied by fake moral indignation, all for the sake of a cheap headline, better circulation and so, their ultimate goal, more advertising revenue.

So if anyone is endangering our young it's the jackals who publicise behaviour which is well within the bounds of normality, even if it isn't exactly the most edifying or advisable.

The idea that we should hold footballers to account for their perfectly legal behaviour but ignore and even indulge the criminal antics of would-be leaders of our country is breathtakingly skewed.
      Well ****ing said mate.

      That's the one...

With this in mind, if i was in his shoes, i'd be keeping my head down, working my bollocks off and doing everything, both on the field and off it, to make the manager think he's wrong in ignoring me.

What this picture does is, rightly or wrongly, make Pennant look like he doesnt actually give two ****s whether he's in the team or not, he's earning his wedge for doing very little and very happy with that, knowing it'll fund him a lifestyle of drinking, partying, womanising and generally living the life of riley, with very little done to earn it.

Terrible example to kids, sickening for fans to see what their money is paying for.

In short, **** him off. He's a waster, an embarrassment to the shirt and not someone i wish to see associated with LFC any more.

I sometimes get the feeling people want to see him **** up because of his past rep. I for one was worried when we signed him because of his previous but to be fair i've been pleasantly surprised at how well he's behaved himself during his Liverpool career.
            decent post young un

but we bought him to play well which he hasnt and doesnt

Those on here defending him are missing the point completely. There's civilised drinking and theres binge drinking. If he was down the local having a couple of pints on his day off so be it but he is outside a nightclub in the wee hours off the morning drinking straight JD from the bottle. Highly unprofessional IMO and not good for the body. Modern athletes look after themselves in everyway especially diet. There is no way he could train properly after this. Stupid carry on from a player who should be giving 150% to get bak into the 1st team.

We managed to rectify it, though, because it now says, "Cook" where it once said "Cock", and "Pass" where it once said "Piss", so it’s slightly less rude.

This is a guy who is fighting for his career and he is doing himself no favours with pictures like these. Hopefully we will flog him in January along with Degen, Dossena and Itanje.

He should be working hard and trying to get back in the squad and not out drinking. Last year he was bitching that England were not picking him and how right they were. I'm sure alot of the squad drink and as long it does not effect there performance then let them off. Pennant is taking the piss though and is getting paid alot of money.

So getting on the piss makes him play worse? Do you have a chart of Pennant's performances on weeks his drunk compared to ones he hasn't? (if those exist )

I can't see why people are getting so angry about this. I drink, he drinks, most of you drink. Practically everyone in the world bar Momo Sissoko drinks. I don't really see the problem at all, maybe it's not the "ideal" look for a below par footballer but if that's what he does, it's what he does I have no problem with it. As I can't see a correlation between that and his level of performance, because Pennant generally always plays badly, I don't see what the outrage is.

And the working hard to get back into the team thing. So what at 11pm - 4am or whatever time it was, what is he supposed to be doing? At the gym pumping weights by himself? On the treadmill? Please enlighten me. He's a first a human then a footballer, if he wants to enjoy drinking straight whisky out of the bottle so be it.

Smoking I could understand, but drinking doesn't have nearly as many negative connotations attached.

It's ridiculous. If it was Friday night then he wasn't even training next day anyway.

Lots of professional athletes drink. After his first Olympic gold, by his own admission, Bradley Wiggins spent all day every day in the pub for nine months, coming home in the evening to share a bottle or two of wine with his then girlfriend. If an endurance cyclist can recover from nine months of heavy drinking to win two more Olympic golds then a footballer won't be ruined by the occasional heavy night.

I don't remember people getting on their high horse about Didi Hamann's smoking. They're just getting moralistic because they don't like and don't rate Pennant. Well I don't rate him either but this non-story isn't a valid reason to slag him off.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Calm down you lot. I don't drink but i dont care if Pennant is out drinking JD on a saturday night. Im assuming this pic was taken on Saturday when he was not taken to Bolton with the 1st team then he probably had the whole weekend off and therefore did not have to report to training on sunday morning. Big wow. Yeah he's not good enough and is rightly transfer listed but he's not doing anything worse than most of the british youth

The problem is that it looks like he don't care if he is playing or not. He turned away the chance to play week in week out at another club because they didn't offer him enough money.

I think that when he leaves us then his career will be more or less over. He don't have the mentality to go down a level. I think that he know that himself.

We will be his last big club. That will affect his mentality right now.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

It's not about how drinking would or wouldnt affect his performances. It's the air of "i'm not in the team. Oh well, bollocks to that anyway, let's go out and get pissed..who cares?"

It sickens me that my hard earned money is helping to fund that kind of lifestyle.
