You you'd really rather believe it was down to a higher power looking down on us than give any credit to Rafa?

2005 was destiny. No one is going to take away from Rafa what we achieved in Istanbul he played his part no doubt
However, he hasn't cut it in the league so this talk of a new contract extension is a little baffling. We shouldn't rush into stuff like this. Cost us big time in the Houllier era.
We have shown an improvement this season, but we haven't shown enough yet to be talking about giving Rafa an extra 3 years in the jobLast edited by Sarb; 15-12-08, 01:20 PM.

Credit has to go to Rafa no doubt. But don't you think in part it was destiny? For example that double save by Dudek. Look at it on replay, it was amazing, out of this world to get up that quickly and for Sheva to miss from that closeOriginally posted by Reggie View PostYou you'd really rather believe it was down to a higher power looking down on us than give any credit to Rafa?
Look at the game against Galatasary, a last minute winner
The game against Chelsea when Gudjohnsen shot missed Carra's leg by mm's

of course i credit rafa for our european success. i just don't rate european success above league success amigo.Originally posted by Reggie View PostYou you'd really rather believe it was down to a higher power looking down on us than give any credit to Rafa?
we shouldn't be giving him a new contract just yet. rafa talks about loving the club etc, what difference will a contract in May make to one in January?
Its like me getting paid for the next job without finishing the 1st job!

Destiny is like a ubiquitous cloud over our lives. It heavily influences the events in our lives, the decisions we make, who we spend our lives with. All major events in our life such as birth, marriage, major illnesses, istanbul 2005, accidents and death are pre-destined. As destiny is a spiritual root cause of difficulties in our life, its effects can only be nullified by spiritual practice.Originally posted by Reggie View PostBut what exactly is destiny though and how can it effect the outcome of a football match?
here is your answer.....think it means we have to pray during games

But who decided we were meant to win it? You're not really answering my question properlyOriginally posted by Sarb24 View PostWe were meant to win the European Cup in 2005. That is destiny
Anyway semantics aside, I have no problem with people believing that we won the EC for whatever reason, as long as they don't use it a way of discrediting Rafa. But from yours and rage's replies you are not doing that

do you think istanbul in rafa's 1st season is enough to of a success to merit a new contract 5 seasons later?Originally posted by Reggie View PostBut who decided we were meant to win it? You're not really answering my question properly

Reggie, a lot of people recognise that it was destiny. However, I am not taking anything away from the achivement of the players and the boss. I said on the weekend, it was an amazing night and a fantastic achivement. Of course Rafa played his part in that. Can't have sent out a team of 11 mediocre players and still won the game.
I'm not discrediting Rafa's achievements in Europe. He is second to none. In league terms in England, he isn't up there in the Top 3 and he continues to make some glaring mistakes in games. Isn't an agenda, it's just a view point

don't tell me not a single one of you haven't used the term 'please god' during games. i'm not a religious man but even i have uttered these words countless times following liverpoolOriginally posted by red g View PostDestiny is like a ubiquitous cloud over our lives. Well I wasn't really getting involved in terms of that question, I was merely picking up on the destiny thing. But as you've asked - it is a tough one there is no denying. I admit I love Rafa to bits and would love him to be at the club for the next 5 years because I genuinely believe he is taking the club in the right direction, even if he is yet to perfect absolutely everything (and thus still has things to learn). But at the same time I can see why it would make sense to wait until the end of the season before extending his contract.Originally posted by rage View Postdo you think istanbul in rafa's 1st season is enough to of a success to merit a new contract 5 seasons later?
Then again if him signing an extension also means we can tie down some of the other players to new contracts then that is another positive.
So basically I can see an argument to both sides, and wouldn't be unhappy if either happened
Have a sat on the fence a little there?

Do we want players who want to play for Liverpool or want to play for Rafa? Then isn't Rafa becoming bigger than the club
Another question in the mixer there for you Reggie :-)
