Exactly. We look capable this year, so why not set our sights high for a change, instead of the usual "3rd place is good" mentality.

I've been trying no to but I think my heart is starting to get set on a win.

My head does agree with you 100%. Before the season it was all I could have asked or hoped for, a great improvement.

However despite a poor run of form we're sitting top, historically we're better second half of the season and we're awaiting Torres coming back.

Whatever the naysayer "supporters" may say we're in a very strong position and my heart is over ruling my head, I'm starting to admit an hope for the title. And I'll be very miffed if we miss out by more than a few points. I want us fighting on the final day.

I don’t think we’ll win it but I hope we end up within five points of the eventual Champions. If we do, Rafa deserves a new contract and complete backing from the board. If we’re out of the Premiership race by the end of March (e.g 10 points behind the leaders) then the board have a duty to look for a new manager.

FWIW, I think we'll be in the mix come May.

Agree. If we finish miles behind this season, by which I mean 10pts or more, then we seriously need to reassess Rafa's tenure. I don't think we will mind you. I don't think we'll win the league either, and that means we'll not have seized our best opportunity in 19 years to do it, and that in itself will be cause for concern and reflection.

              Hello again mate.

I think the only way we can win the Prem this year is to sign a player that can deputise for Torres when he's injured. You know who I mean, right?!

I guess it depends on our situation too. Let's say that Gerrard and Torres and Alonso are out for the rest of the season. Would 10 points behind the leaders be poor? Not really.

10 points behind and a fully fit squad would be.

It's rather subjective but as long as we compete and give it our best, that will be good enough for me. It's not Football Manager and football is not play by numbers. Human factors play a big part including luck.

Just sit back and enjoy the highs and the lows of the season and hopefully we can celebrate the big one in May.

An acceptable season for me would be 2nd with a sustained challenge.

I agree with your comments above.

                    Agree.

I expected a 3rd place at the start of the season, but with Keane being such ****e, I guess 3rd would now be decent. As has been said, it's points that matter really and anything within 6-8 points of the top would be reasonable.

At the start of the season I expected us to finish in the top 4, just as I do every year. However, in light of what I have seen so far this season I expect us to finish in the top 3, and with a bit of luck (and with Nando back) I believe we might even win it.

If we don't win it this season I'd say we're even more likely to win it next season IMO

at the start of the season I hoped for a close 3rd and although I'm now getting greedy and wanting to win it I think I'd count a close 3rd as a good season

                            1st. Joke

I'll accept 2nd within 4 points of first. 3rd and 4th means we should get a new manager IMO if we're 7 plus points behind the winners

I'd be surprised if theres more than 4 points covering 1st to 3rd this year. I really think that it will be that close. Let's just keep believing that we can stay top of the pile.

We really need to start picking up our home form though for this to happen.

How about if we're 5th but 3 points behind the winner?
