I think the Benny sub was the wrong one in all honesty, cos Piennar and Baines were linking well down that side, so Kuyt's defensive qualities were needed.

Lucas was brought on to try and allow us to retain the ball, something he does better than Mascher, who is a terrier, to other players, but not what was needed i believe.

But as was said, were was Carra? Someone says covering for Skrtel?? Why, if the ball was going down the left, then Carra should have been there.

And it was a foul, Benny missed the ball completely.

Also, how good was Cahill's movement in the box...cunt!!!

Which begs the question why Carra was at right back and Arbeloa on the bench.
We only attack down the left hand side when Carra and Kuyt play on the right because neither can trap a bag of cement.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

I could not believe Lucas came on ahead of Mascherano. And the first thing he does, gives away a silly free kick. In my opinion he gives far too many stupid free kicks away which add pressure on our defense.

Lucas has only played one good game for us so far and that was against Newcastle, I do hope he can repeat that performance but I just don't see it happening anytime soon.

Having said that he was not to blame for last nights result. I taught the team as a whole were poor. We should have been able to beat a second string Everton team but we made it hard for ourselves by our negative style of play.

We are doing our best to hand the title to United at the minute. The whole moral of the team needs to be lifted. I still think we can do it, lets face it we are level on points with United and at worse will be three points behind them if they win their game in hand. We have been in far worse positions than this and yet we have been more optimistic.

Lets get behind the team and drive them home!!!!!!!!!!!
As I already said, Lucas was not to blame for last nights result.

Poor performances from the majority of the players and some poor decisions from Rafa were.

Is ANYONE still prepared to defend Lucas now ?

Why doesn't Spearing or Darby gets as many chances as Lucas? I'm convinced they'd have a lot more to offer.

Yes. He gave away a silly penalty but I don't think he had a bad game at all. He's a promising young player who has a lot of ability.

That said Alonso is a lot better than him and I think he should have played but that isn't Lucas' fault.

I would love to know just which abilities lucas has that folks keep talking about. Seriously now. Tackling-no. Goal scoring-no. Pace-no. Flair-no. Set piece delivery-no. Guile/creativity-no. Ability to retain the ball for us and lay the ball off-yes. Wow, i'm so glad we have someone that contributes so much to the team. He has made one great little pass all season that led to a goal, but apart from that he is there to simply hold on to the ball and keep possession. What a fukin waste of a player. We need someone who can do that (which isnt that hard really is it?) and offer more in addition. Possession we have loads of. Keep him as 4th choice and only play him as a last resort, rafa. For fuks sake do not play him over alonso. What an insult to xabi. Not only do we prefer gary barry to you, but when we really need a win, we will replace you with wonderlucas. Great.

I thought Lucas played well in the first half but was anonymous after the break, but we were fairly ****e as a team for the whole second half. The penalty he conceded was needless but he wasn't our worst player last night.
I still think he has a lot of potential and has showed in patches this season what he is capable of. He doesn't deserve to be one of the favourite scapegoats when things go wrong.

He's a good passer of the ball, he's very good in the air. He generally chooses the right ball, his set piece delivery is good. In fact I prefer him putting them in than Gerrard and he knows how to make intelligent runs into the middle at the right time when he's asked to perform that role.

100% agree. If Lucas was playing for United we would be pissing ourselves laughing. I know this will ruffle a few feathers but Pennant did more in his 90 minutes against Villa on Tuesday night than Lucas has all season. Rafa's team selection and negative tactics cost us the game (and possibly the league) last night.

He makes very simple straightforward passes that most players could pull off. Hes hardly xabi. Good in the air? So what? He plays in central midfield. He does try to get forward but how often does he make a run that really makes a difference? Rarely. He is 4th choice and should sit on the bench unless we are desperate. As back up, fine. over xabi? No way.
