I think that Rafa is trying to make Lucas into a new Pirlo.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

We could have bought decent player for the money e spunked on Benayoun and Lucas that summer... what a ****e signing especially when we already had world class players in this position.

Apparently this year, Rafa is going to give him more opportunity to be the DM that gets forward, so hopefully we'll see more of what made him the player he was at Gremio.
I reckon that's a really good point actually. If I have some-one starting a new job in my office I break them in gently by making them prove to me that they can get the simple things right before I let them loose on more complicated things where getting it wrong can be a major problem. Why should football be any different really? It fits in well with the oft quoted notion as well that Rafa sees players as 'tools' rather than 'humans'. He might be the complete player but I think Rafa wants to see his players, especially the juniors, prove it bit by bit.

Of course, some players are just complete tools.
            Really?

I believe Lucas bashing is flavour of the month

Saw him in the flesh against Crewe in the CC, he was shocking. Outmuscled by Crewe players all night.

He plays in the same position and is the same type of player. Not as good as Pirlo but he is still young.

He is a good player but i having trouble adapting the the Prem, however we have 3 of the best midfield players in the world at our club so could it be that we are compairing him to Alonso, Mash and stevie?

I don't think we are. I think we're looking at how average he is when he plays. Just don't think he suits our formation and way of playing. Feel a bit sorry for the guy to be honest

no i've been doing it for ages.

i don't agree with el jef when he compares lucas to some of the others like spearing. none of them cost 6 million.

the yossi and lucas money should have been better spent that window.

Add to that the money spent on Pennant and that's a lot of money

On reading this thread, it's amazing how opinions vary so greatly. Football is so fascinating.

For me Lucas is a player who would get used infrequently. He would never displace Xabi or Masch, but would allow them some respite during an arduous campaign.
