However you must understand he is the most popular player in the world right now, unless managed properly the media will have a field day regardless of the facts and this kind of thing does not seat well with some people ... the quicker we draw a line under it the better ..

Just look what bollix happened over Ross and that phone call .. the press will be all over this ..the club needs to squash the story
he wont be allowed to make a public statement it is now in the hands of the law

If anything happens to Stevie G, How long before something else happens to this Dj? Will he ever step foot into Liverpool again?

I know some of the fans wouldn't take lightly to a Manc Dj: 1) Ruining our title chances, 2) Getting our captain worried, 3) Getting our captain sent down.

The BBc has stated that he has been charged with ABH (Section 47 assault ) and Affray. If he had glassed someone or used a weapon which had caused stitches to be needed he would have been charged with GBH (Section 18 Assault). On the night he was arrested for Secton 20 Assault this is causing GBH without intent (normally when no weapons involved). It is likely that the seriousness of the injuries were over estimated on the night.
With him being charged I would say there are two possibilities,

              1. He has done something and has admitted to it during interview
              2. Police had sufficient evidence to proove he did something.

It is not unsual, unless these two conditions are met , that he would just have been bailed for further evidence as the rest seem to have been.

I have to be honest, I hope it isn't the case but I'm expecting a guilty plee at Court, after this a statement apologising to victim and family along with apology to the club and fans for letting them down.

Even though he is a major figure I wouldn't expect any prison term for a first offence, unless there's any previous we're not aware of (unlikeley)

Do you think the owners, bouncers etc have been told to shut it by either the police or LFC?

They surely know what happened, on CCTV?

All stevie will get is a fine and a good telling off by the police, But as i said before im not worried about what the police do, what has me worried is what rafa and the clubs reaction will be?

Anyway he has made his bed now, so he can lay in it.
And people on here saying that nothing has been proved yet and he needs to be found guilty first...

For the poilce to have kept him in for so long and charge him, you may me sure that there is clear cctv footage of his involvment, thats why he was charged.

But the media will go into overdrive thats where the damage is done. we all know he has a dodgy "fuse" in his head.
Lets just hope this is the last time he blows it, and for this little episode to be over asap.

Dec 30 2008 by Luke Traynor, Liverpool Echo

STEVEN Gerrard was charged with assault this morning after a nightclub brawl in Southport.

The 28-year-old Liverpool captain was held in police custody for 20 hours after the early-morning disturbance at The Lounge Inn.

Local businessman Marcus McGee lost a tooth and had stitches for cuts to his face.

Gerrard was out with friends celebrating Liverpool’s 5-1 defeat of Newcastle.

At around midnight last night police confirmed they had formally charged Gerrard with assault and affray.

John Doran, 29, of Woodlands Road, and Ian Gerard Smith, 19, of Hilary Avenue, both Huyton, also face assault and affray charges.

All three are due to appear before North Sefton magistrates in Southport on January 23.

Two men, aged 33 and 31 from Huyton, were released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Accrington Stanley FC winger Bobby Grant, 18, from Litherland, was also released on bail pending further inquiries.

Mr McKee is believed to be a regular customer at the Lounge Inn and had informal access to the music decks.

The ECHO can confirm a dispute broke out after a song request was turned down.

At some stage a bottle was smashed over the head or face of the 34-year-old victim, but not by Gerrard.

Liverpool FC pledge support for club captain Steven Gerrard

                      Dec 30 2008
                      Steven Gerrard

LIVERPOOL today pledged to give Steven Gerrard “all the support he needs” after the Reds skipper was charged with assault and affray.

Gerrard will appear in court next month alongside two other men in connection with an alleged brawl in a Southport bar in the early hours of Monday morning.

A club spokesman said: “Steven has been an outstanding servant to Liverpool for the last ten years and the club will give him all the support he needs at this time.”

The 28-year-old midfielder will appear at North Sefton Magistrates Court on January 23 and Liverpool have moved swiftly to give their captain their full backing ahead of that date.

It's almost certain that whatever he did was caught on cctv, so admitting it now only helps his case when the punishment is given.

The man in the street would get a fine and damages to pay for a first offence of this nature, a magistrates court appearance at most.

"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

My sister is a lawyer, I asked her about this and she said its possible to get a few months jail time for something like this but highly unlikely, if found guilty he'll be fined and maybe get community service.

So the best case scenario is:-

He uses this incident to fire him up for the next month and he puts in some great performances before being found not guilty and this is forgotten about.

                              Chance of this happening 50/50

                              The worst case scenario is:-

This eats away at him and his form drops, he's found guilty and gets some form of punishment, this impacts on his performances even more. The club are forced to react and set an example by stripping him of his captaincy and fine him.

                              Chance of this happening 50/50

                              The ultimate nightmare scenario:-

His performances drop, he's found guilty and jailed, due to massive outcry from the media LFC sell him.

                              Chance of this happening 10000/1
