Was Keane's record better than Kuyt's?

Here is what Robbie Keane said:

At the end, was Keane refering to Kuyt?
And to those who know about statistics: Was his record of scoring according to the amount of minutes played better than Kuyt's?

KEANE: I COULD HAVE BEEN A HIT
    Posted 06/02/09 22:57EmailPrintSave

Tottenham striker Robbie Keane is convinced he could have been an Anfield success under a different manager, but insists there will be no war of words with Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez.

Keane's dream £20million move to Merseyside in the summer swiftly turned to disappointment as he struggled for both games and goals, culminating in a deadline-day move back to his former employers at White Hart Lane.

But Keane's self-belief has not been harmed by his Liverpool disappointment.

Indeed, the Republic of Ireland skipper has vowed to repay Spurs boss Harry Redknapp with the goals he insists he could have scored had there been a different man in charge of the Reds.

Despite that, Keane, who has immediately been installed as the new Spurs captain ahead of Sunday's north London derby against Arsenal, is eager not to mark his Anfield departure with bitterness.

"I wish the lads well, Rafa and the staff. I hope they do well," said Keane.

"I'm not getting into a feud with anyone, I'm too big for that and have too much respect for people and what they do.

"I respect Rafa for how he picks his team and unfortunately I just didn't fit in with how he likes to play football.

"I went there and for whatever reason it didn't work out, simple as that. With a different manager there maybe it could have worked.

"The manager has his own opinions on how he wants to play football and set up a system and I didn't fit with that. But I believe it could have worked under a different manager."

Keane revealed that Benitez did not divulge his reasons for leaving him out of the side or discuss his decision to sell him back to Tottenham.

And the striker remains baffled about the Spaniard's decision to look to the likes of unproven duo Nabil El Zhar and David Ngog at key stages of the season.

"I've never been left out of a squad in my career and to be left out is difficult," he said.

"I've proven over the last 10 years that I'm quite capable of doing a job and scoring goals. And no disrespect to anybody at Liverpool or the players ahead of me but if you look at my record, I think mine's a little bit better.

"I believe I should have been in the squad. I believe in my ability and that I should have played maybe a few more games. But I didn't and that's the way it goes."

Yes he probably is, and yes he Prem record is better. But, even though Kuyt is an average striker in the Prem, he has been playing RM for a while now. Where he's equally average.

I can see Keane's point, but he hardly set the world alight when he did play. BUt then his supporters will argue that he was never really given a chance to have a solid run in the team.

Whatever. He's gone now. Move on.

PS: Kuyt will score today! He's due; he hasn't scored in 5 PL games (399 mins).

I think he was also referring to Ngog and El Zhar being picked ahead of him.

Anyhow - no point in looking back - we have a Premiership to win (and a CL league).

The thing to remember is,the situation behind the scenes at the club is the only reason why Keane is no longer a Liverpool fc player.Keane's name must of been on a list of players Rafa wanted, just not at the top.

Either Parry or Rafa has to go in my opinion. This situation is really a bad thing for the club.

Haha, rather than talking about it now, he should have done it in front of goal in the red shirt. He didn't, and failed to offer a lot else in all other aspects of play either. His prior form at that point becomes irrelevant. The difference with Kuyt is that despite his inadequacies, Kuyt knuckled down when his form in front of goal deteriorated and proved he could be an option in other positions or roles for the team. And has never given up.

Its obvious Keane is the more talented footballer, and also has a better goal scoring record in England, and I can see why he's been left with a bitter taste from his spell at Anfield, but its not as if he exactly handled the step up very well himself. Personally I think he struggled going from being the big fish at Spurs to being "just another player", in the shade of Gerrard, Torres etc until he proved himself.

Its not as if he had no choice about going back to Spurs, or demonstrated any real willingness to stay and make it work at his boyhood club. The longer we get from the sale, despite the potential issues in our attacking personnel without him replaced, the more I think the right decision was made all round. He, and we, should get over it now.
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
                Mine angry and defrauded young?

Keane not interested in reds medal

Robbie Keane has revealed he would give his medal away if Liverpool were to win the Premier League.

Striker Keane brought to an end a disappointingly brief spell at Anfield when he signed for former club Tottenham this week having scored seven goals in 28 appearances for the club he supported as a child.

With Liverpool second in the league they have their best chance in years of claiming the title, but Keane would take little pleasure from being given a medal.

"It would mean nothing at all to me now," he said. "My brother is a Liverpool fan so I'd probably give it to him.

"The way I look at it is that a medal means something when you are a part of the squad and involved in winning a trophy.

"When you are in and out of the squad and not involved in games, there are times when you don't feel part of it.

"Next month's Carling Cup final means more to me because I'm a Tottenham player now, even though I can't play.

"Liverpool is gone. It's the past. What happens there now is not my problem."

"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

At least he's not really put the boot in which is decent.

It was obvious from the start that Keane has no real place in a 4231 system, this was spectacularly proved (even if he did miss some sitters) and the best for all parties was a swift resolution. No doubt he'll bang in 10 goals between now and the end of the season for Spurs.

Playing for Spurs is a different kettle of fish to playing for LFC, just my opinion like, but the difference in pressure, which can as we know have an effect on form is immense.

The thing is a/ Kuyt mostly plays on the wing and b/ compliments rather than hindering Torres and Gerrard. I don't think that a raw (personal) stats analysis is helpful in this case.

I don't think poring over the reported words of doubtless a disappointed former Liverpool player is especially helpful either.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Am I right in thinking Robbie Keane only has one medal in his trophy cabinet?

As if he wouldn't take the Premiership medal.
