If I had to pick 1 player as my favourite of all time it would be Souness.

I ****ing loved his swagger, his toughness and his ability to dominate a whole game with ease, at times he was the complete footballer and I have to say hes better than Gerrard can ever hope to be. Mind you to be fair to Stevie in Souness place he may have looked every bit as good. What Stevie lacks is the mental attitude of Souness who you could just tell believed he was the best player in the best team and anyone who dared do well against them was disrespecting them.

He was ****ing awesome.

And yes I know I was very young when he was at his best but I have an uncle who taped pretty much every match in the 70's & 80's and I spent a lot of my youth sitting watching them over and over.

Better at what exactly?

The only thing i can think of that Souness may of been better at was tackling.Nothing else.Souness had world class players around him with a reputation and mentality that they were actually the best in the world.Souness was just a part of it.Souness couldn't pass the ball like Gerrard.He didn't have the speed or the scoring ability of Gerrard either.Souness would be sent off every week if he played in this era therefore he wouldn't be as effective so that side of his game would be taken away aswell.

Not sure what Souness done when he left Liverpool.

With regards to Gerrard,I'm not sure it really needs to be said how good he is with mostly average players around him for most of his career.I think his trophy haul speaks for itself.

I remember watching Barnes playing for Watford. I'm no sure who the opposition was, it could have been us. But I clearly remember the impression he made on me. He was terrorizing the defence with his skill and pace.
After that, I was hoping for him to come to Liverpool, which he did a year or two later.
When he came I liked to think that it was partially down to my scouting abilities that he came. Actually still think it was....

He was phenomenal. A shame that there would only be shown 1 match a week on danish telly back in those days. Sometimes you'd have to wait for weeks to see the team again. As the coverage got better our play got worse and Kenny, Barnes, Rush and the rest had retired. It was a privilege to have watched them anyway though, even if it were only on televison... ooh and in one trainingmatch ahead of the 89-90 season in my hometown.
