He is proned to a bit of a sulk, true, but I think most people recognise that, and realise the positivies far outweigh the negatives.

Why Steven Gerrard struggles to have the complete love of the Kop

I am shocked by the article really - how can anyone dare claim that the Kop don't love Steven Gerrard! ****ing idiot. i hate all these ****ing super fan wannabes who come across as the spokesman for every red
The instanbul comment is ****ing ridiculous!!!
so he is suggesting that when gerrard scored, dragging us back into the game, and every single red was going mental, in reality we were actually grumbling at Gerrard for raising his arms in suggestion that he was telling us how to support - what a ****ing arsehole this prick comes across in that article.
It looks to me like he has been snubbed by gerrard - he was probably trying to get an autograph whilst gerrard was having a piss or something and he got ignored.
Ok at most, gerrards worse 'crime' was considering the move to chelsea, but at the time who could blame him for looking at the option - there had been a few problems at anfield, the squad was pretty poor, and he had the option to move to a this newly assembled 'super team' if you like at chelsea that looked like they potentially could go and dominate football with all the money they had. - But ultimatley Gerrard decided to stay.
Other than that, all gerrard has been guilty of is being by far Liverpools best player for 10 years and at times our only player. So granted at times he might get a bit sulky when things aren't going his way - **** me I do it in five side when my other 4 mates ar eplaying ****, i see it every saturday and sunday from **** amatuer pub teams to good standard amatuer teams all the way to the prem, - at the end of a day, whatever level the game is played at, it's still just that, a game, that invovles human emotions!! - gerrards not a ****ing robot. ****ing hell if i was playing in a underperfoming side and i scored a screamer, in the heat of the moment i'd be running round saying i'm the ****ing man!!!
Who is this tony evans anyway, cockhead! - he is dead to me
Something I will throw out there, and worthy of debate i feel, me and my were discussing this the other day. I'd go as far to say that Steven Gerrard is, or will be remembered, as the best liverpool player of all time, not taking anything away from king kenny, but he was part of a great liverpool side prob the best team in europe - gerrard has been is some very poor sides and has literally done most of it on his own!i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

The top 50 Liverpool moments I The 50 greatest Liverpool players
Those who don’t go to Anfield on a regular basis are often surprised to see the matchgoing Liverpool fans’ attitude to Steven Gerrard. They expect admiration, love, a fawning devotion to the Liverpool captain. Instead, there is an unsettling undercurrent of antagonism towards Gerrard, one that is fading as the years go by but can still rise up into hostility at the slightest excuse.
When they come across it, outsiders attribute the griping to Gerrard’s double flirtation with Chelsea - but the doubts in the Kopites’ minds go back farther.
Almost from the beginning, more than ten years back now, there were those who found Gerrard’s demeanour irritating. As soon as it became clear that here was a prodigious talent, the critics in the stands saw room for complaint. At times, the youngster appeared to be looking for the flashy ‘Hollywood’ pass when an easy ball was the preferred option.
It got worse after he was part of England’s 5-1 victory over Germany. Suddenly he was a national hero. Scouse supremacists are always naturally suspicious of English heroes.
Gerrard was earning the nickname ‘Stevie Me’. When he scored, he pointed to his chest frantically. When he was used on the right of midfield - which the Kop, almost to a man considered his best position - he seemed to sulk, yearning for the central role the media demanded. And, in the big games, the alehouse tittle-tattle said, he disappeared. That meant, in simplest terms, he'd never destroyed Manchester United single-handedly. Yet, by the time Benitez arrived, he seemed to feel he was the dominant power at the club.
The perfect example of ambivalence to Gerrard came in Istanbul. After he scored Liverpool’s opening goal, he turned to rouse the crowd, gesturing with his arms for fans to turn up the volume. The volume rose, for sure, but there was an irritated growl behind it: we didn’t need lesson in support from him. Afterwards, he hogged the cup, with only Jamie Carragher wresting it away for any length of time. Not the Liverpool way. Not the work of a captain, either.
The there was the flirtation with Chelsea. It was almost too much to bear to see a Scouser apparently determined to take Roman’s roubles. But he stayed. And since then, things have got better.
He’s matured. The arrival of Fernando Torres has removed some of the expectation and burden from him. He’s had more bounce about him on the pitch. Plus, his recent arrest has made this aloof and seemingly troubled lad from Huyton simpatico at last.
All things considered, he deserves the place at No 2 in the list of Liverpool’s greatest players - if you need a goal with the time running out, where else would you want to see the ball but at Gerrard’s feet. But he also deserves the acclaim and adoration of the Kop. It’s coming, it’s coming...

I agree, don't get me wrong King Kenny is a legend and rightly so but everything has to be relative to the team he is part of, Kenny joined a very good team and improved it massively, I thing Gerrard has played in aguably the consistantly worst Liverpool sides in modern times up to a couple of years ago.
He's in his 10th year in the 1st team and this is the 1st year we are even attempting to compete, he has done more individually than any other single player in my 27 years supporting the clubThe King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

It could perhaps be argued that it has actually been easier for Gerrard to stand out, given that he has, for the most part, been operating alongside players of inferior ability. As he was the sole world-class performer (or at least one of a small number) for a number of seasons, and because so much of our play was directed through and dictated by him, his contributions have inevitably been magnified and his status has been inflated accordingly.
As stated, Kenny was playing in a team that also contained some of the best players of their generation - Souness, Rush, Hansen, Clemence, Lawrenson, Kennedy (R.), McDermott, at varying times. For it to be widely acknowledged that, even amid that sort of company, he was the club's talisman, its one true genius, is an indication of the unmatched levels that Dalglish reached on the pitch. His game was dripping with the sort of imagination and vision rarely seen on a football pitch, and it was accompanied by a ferocious toughness, both mental and physical, and a competitiveness that served as an inspiration to teammates and supporters alike.
To me, Dalglish is in a class apart from any other Liverpool player, past or present (although I imagine those who saw Billy Liddell in his prime may not agree). Gerrard, magnificent though he has been, is in the group below, jostling with the likes of Barnes, Rush and Souness. There's no shame in that though.

Agree with elvoz (washes mouth out).
Kenny and Souness were better than Stevie IMHO. I'd also add Barnes to that list, but that is in no way denegrating Stevie as a player. Those three are three of the best ever to play in this country. No shame in looking up to them. It's easy to distract fat people. It's a piece of cake.

Bucharest had done well to reach this part of the competition but at Anfield they were very physical. Rush and Dalglish took a battering. Souness nearly did but the Reds player ensured his opponent got a broken jaw for trying it on him. Bucharest were intent on getting through this one by muscle alone. Sammy Lee headed home the only goal of the game after twenty five minutes. The Reds themselves were confident the one goal was enough.
Semi Final 2nd Leg - April 25th 1984
Dinamo Bucharest 1 Liverpool 2
Team : Grobbelaar, Neal, Kennedy, Lawrenson, Whelan, Hansen, Dalglish (Nicol), Lee, Rush, Johnston, Souness
Goals : Rush 2 (12,84)
Att 60,000
The Romanian side looked to pick up where they left off in the first leg of this one. Graeme Souness was one man the crowd were gunning for after the broken jaw incident of the first leg. The players knew better than to hit him though and instead aimed for Ian Rush. Rush was battered but after just eleven minutes hit them were it hurt by scoring. An away goal is always crucial and this proved just as much. Although Bucharest scored before half time they would have to score two more goals to go through. The Reds though were on top and always more likely to score a second than Bucharest and it was Rush again six minutes before time who scored it. That was his fortieth of the season.
Souness
