Even if the game's being played behind closed doors, the players are obligated to be 'up for it' and motivated.

The booing thing is beyond debate, idiots like that shouldnt get in the ground.
You wouldn't get an argument from me about that but by the same token even if we are playing ****tyfootballers Rovers we the fans should be up for it just as much as if we were playing Real Madrid.

We can slag off our team when we play ****e we should also take a good look at ourselves.

No dispute there. I think part of the point was to 'blame' fans for poor performances, which i find absurd.

I think the point that is equally fair is that while that is certainly true (and their is a tendency for fans to downplay the fact that they might bear any responsibility) it is true for all teams to some degree or another. United win games without a home crowd cheering them to the rafters more often than not - our team does need to improve in order to do that. The crowd appreciation will always be inconsistent for run of the mill PL games so as a team we have to suck that up and up our performance levels.

Fans arent going to be 'as' up for it for games against Stoke and Hull, that's just human nature. By the same token, the players are vulnerable to human nature too, but the fans arent the ones who are meant to be professionals and being paid millions to give their all.

That's my take on the notion of fans perhaps not being as 'loud' for certain games. If you're talking about people booing the team, then they can just **** off.

At the end of the day players are humans and if we struggle to get up for Stoke at home then so will the players.

They are the ones playing and getting paid **** loads to play so they have most of repsonsibility but WE DO have to take some blame.

No EPL team has as close a bond with its support as we do.

Players and fans alike influence the outcome of games, and although I agree with Craig that to suggest our **** performances this season have been the fans fault is utter turd, I do think that we, the match going public, can help the team play better.

Not so sure what can be done about it though? Paisly banned TV cameras from the ground but that won't work in todays' game. Perhaps Stevie should come out before a game or in the programme and ask for more vocal support, although that has as much going against as for it?

The booers aren't fans I think we both agree with that.

I couldn't sit here and say it's our fault because that would be wrong but I certainly don't think we help and when the players don't seem up for it I think we have a responsibility to make them and in certain games we the fans fail.

He shouldn't have to and he would only get slagged for it.

We all love this club we should all take a look at ourselves and make sure they never walk alone. We should be there when they need us like we were last night.

Fulham at home is just as important as Real Madrid at home and the sooner we realise this the better.

I don't think anyone was suggesting our poor performances have been the fans fault - that was just Craig taking/twisting something that someone said to the exreme once again.

I don't think anyone at all has said our **** home performances 'are the fans fault'. All I said was the fans in attendance have a responsibility. The problem is too many of the fans whinge like **** away from the game, yet at the game they are as quiet as mice. Well ****ing do something about it then. I haven't been going this season but the number of times I've sat in areas not particularly known for singing - the Kemlyn/Centenary, for example - and sung loudly and passionately only to be made to feel guilty or a bit of a dick....

To be fair, I'm not sure that a reefered-up butchering of White Winter Hymnal was ever going to go down too well with the regulars.

The "fans' fault" crap was Syd's usual straw man phallusy. It's tedious - the lad isn't stupid but he can't argue.
                            .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.
