    Talk is cheap

Am i the only one who's feeling a little uncomfortable with our players coming out in the press and shouting the odds about the title race?

Gerrard, Carragher, now Riera, have all done media articles in the last few days, shouting from the rooftops about winning the league. Even rafa himself.

The facht is that United are still overwhelming favourites and they're in the driving seat. Whatever we do, we still need them to **** up twice.

I remember several occasions when someone at the club has come out in the press talking the talk - and almost every time, it's blown up in our faces.

I just wish they'd keep it buttoned. If we win it, then come out and say whatever you like, but not before.

Well there bound to say something cos its the talk of the PL at the moment. I dont think ive read anyone saying were likely to win it... just that we have an opportunity and we need to make best use of it.

They're trying to turn the screw. They're confident; why not?

Am not really comfortable with that as I'd prefer we get along with our business rather than go about it via the press, especially as it's given the press more ammunition to write bollocks as for them the title race was over just a couple of weeks ago.

Still, a couple of draws would still be enough for us if we keep on winning. They don't need to lose.

I think the more we mention it the more of a storm is created and we need that storm to gather around Man U. I would not be suprised if the players were under instruction to discuss it at any given chance.

At this stage of the season when asked direct questions what in god's name are they supposed to say. People go on about us needing to have a winning mentality and at some point that has to mean we openly set the goal of winning the league. It's hardly as if it is some enormous surprise to anyone that a team 1 point off the top of the table and in great form are thinking about winning it.

Rafa will not let them get ahead of themselves.

They are cranking it up trying to get at the scum. The ****ers down the road may yet come out fighting and win all their games but our boys are trying to put that little doubt in the back of their head that if they do **** up we'll be right behind them.

Having said all that WE need to carry on winning and putting in performances. Talk is cheap but our lads are confident.

Ordinarily I would agree with you, but I think it's just that we know that we've got right under their skin at the moment and don't want to allow them to go away for a fortnight for the international break and come back re-charged. So we keep reminding them again and again that we are breathing down their necks and they are wobbling.

Wouldn't surprise me if Rafa has given them instructions, it seems to be one a day!

I'm sure whatever interview they give is on the lines of "we need to capitalise on any mistakes" and "united are still favourites for the title". By putting the favourites tag onto united will put pressure on them not to **** up.

It’s not as if we’re claiming to be the best team ever, that we would win every competition entered and that no one can touch us.

For that sort of crap we’d deserve to be given what four...
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

To an extent I agree - we should just stay quiet and focussed on the job in hand.

So many times these interviews are taken out of context and edited to sound like an attack on rivals etc.

I don't think anyone has shouted from the roof tops. The comments have been pretty measured imo. What were we saying about hyperbole the other say Syd?

                            For example, Gerrard's comments:

"There's a good feeling around at the moment but it's important not to get carried away," Gerrard said.

"United are still favourites. If they win their game in hand they're four points ahead, which is a decent lead at this stage of the season with nine games to go.

"But confidence is high, the momentum is with us. We have to focus on what we're doing and, if they have another slip-up, we have to capitalise on it."

the problem is - and i am not pointing fingers at anyone here - if the players and rafa had come out saying eg "we are pleased with results, but we think we to far away to win the league," or "we are unhappy to have let are early lead slip but we are trying to make a challenge" or even if the players/manager just said nothing and kept quiet!

we would still have someone posting "i'm worried that the players have been so quiet, we have had three great results in the last couple of weeks and yet we seem to be hiding, i think its nerves" etc etc etc

For me, i think we have done the right thing - It shows we are confident as a result of recent performances, and that we are up for the fight and going to doing everything we can to push them all the way! - i don't think anyone has said, we are going to win the league now! - we have got the mancs rattled and on the back of their last two shocking results we are just cranking up a bit of pressure - i am quite happy to see a positve attitude and hearing about the players being up for the challenge and looking to do all they can to try and win the league!

Makes a change from the "we are dissapointed with our league results, but we have to keep going to ensure we get 4th spot and make the champions league next season!"
