hmm, i think id have preferred it if they had all shut up and said **** all, keep us out of the press a bit, the scum already have the pressure building, as I see it these type of comments only throw it back to us.
That's what i was kinda saying in the other thread. And got slaughtered for it
Am i the only one who's feeling a little uncomfortable with our players coming out in the press and shouting the odds about the title race?
Gerrard, Carragher, now Riera, have all done media articles in the last few days, shouting from the rooftops about winning the league. Even rafa himself.
The facht is that United are still overwhelming favourites and they're in the driving seat. Whatever we do, we still need them to **** up twice.
I remember several occasions when someone at the club has come out in the press talking the talk - and almost every time, it's blown up in our faces.
I just wish they'd keep it buttoned. If we win it, then come out and say whatever you like, but not before.
I said exactly the same thing at the start of the season and was lambasted on this very site for not having enough 'belief'.
Am I alone in thinking that this may be deliberate, that a concerted supply of rhetoric is coming from unlikely sources the main thrust is to wind- up and pressurise the Mancs. Do I detect Rafa playing mind games? He has studied Freud both at school and university! I can't wait for the autobiography.

Normally I'd agree with you, I'm not a fan of the big talk.
However with the break for international duty a steady stream of interviews and leaks keeps the pressure on and fresh in their minds for when they come back.
So as long as they stick to what they're doing and just talk about possibilities and chances rather than trash talking I'm all for it at the mo.
I have this very bad feeling that all this press will come back to haunt us...
Bit like John Terry repeatedly going on about how he will 'make up for his crying' and stuff us in the Semis then ending up in tears again, ergo making his comments about stuffing us look mockworthy.

I loved it when Rafa said that.

But we're really not saying anything like that are we? We're saying that we are playing well, and that we have to keep on doing so, and then if Utd slip up we could win the league. I said it yesterday but I really don't know what the players are expected to say in this situation. They can't just say nothing.
Take the Skrtel interview for example:
The Red Devils still have their game in hand but the 24-year-old defender, who will play against England in the friendly with Slovakia on Saturday, is confident that the league leaders can slip up again.
"I think yes, because there are eight games left or so," he told deniksport.cz.
His reply suggest he was asked a direct question. So is he supposed to say either "no I don't think they will slip up again so we're going to have to settle for second" or "No comment". They're footballers at the end of the day not finely oiled PR machines.
To be honest I think there has been a problem for ages with people massively over interpreting ever utterance of any player/manager in the press. look at the whole thing about Hodgsons comments pre the United game.
It has led the football press in this country to the point where interviews are already deadly dull with players trotting out tedious cliches and giving away nothing. For example interviews with France Football always seem to gain much more insight and have more interesting content, as do all Rafa's interviews in Spain.

last season utd. gave chelsea a a couple of oppurtunities to go past them, but they didn't take advantage(heskey's late goal at the bridge sticks in mind), so i'm hoping they present some more chances to us this year round, and we do take advantage.

Personally, it annoys me a bit when the players start talking up our chances. It doesn't really seem to be the Liverpool way. That said though, what's the worst that could happen? We might end up not winning the league.....I'm used to that now so what else is new?!
