    I get it.

I think he's had his moment in the EPL. He's so egotistical that he'll want to try and conquer another league.

Nice to believe that we're the last club he thinks about at night though - think he had a pang of regret watching Istanbul?

Would have been mint if he turned up at Anfield on his first day like Barthez did. Though coming from London chelsea would've probably lobbed him if he did.

O Neill, without hesitation, he would be a different culture to Rafa, but would also get the team playing to 100% every game. May get tired towards the end though lol unlike rafa's teams.
I also think Paul Jewell has very good potential and he is an ex LFC player, so would be an inspiration in the dressing room no doubt.
As has been mentioned, Paco could also be a good option.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

      * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

Hiddink would be a great choice IMO although you'd hope Rafa would've been here so long Hiddink had since retired

The best way to groom someone in my view is put them in charge of a club and let them prove they can do the job. As such, there are lots of managers currently being 'groomed' in this sense who are very promising.

I don't think really there is an archetypal template for "successful future manager" so I reckon its best to just let everybody get out there and prove themselves as good managers, then choose the best one available when the time comes, rather than seek to shelter someone in the boot room.

              Or Gary Mac ?
I think when viewing ex Reds, I think the best way to judge them as potential managers is to pretend they never played for us. Makes the judgement more objective.

If Gary Mac had never had those great seasons with us, we'd probably look bemused if he were suggested as the next Liverpool manager.

Personally, can't look past Gary Mac or Carra, depending on how long rafa stays. I think that was part of the thinking in trying to get the mac in last season.

I don't think Paco would be an option, because heaven forbid Rafa leaving in the next few
years. But if it was to Real Madrid , Paco would be there like a shot.

Paul Jewell may be an option, however past players (excepting Paisley) tend not to do so well. Let's hope Rafa decides to retire here in say 10 years time, as more tha naything stability is the key to success - Ref Wenger and what he has done in 10 years.

I agree...United were hoping that this method would result in an outstanding candidate to replace Ferguson - they were hoping that one of Robson, Bruce, McClaren, Hughes or even Keane would be ready to take up the reins once Slur Alex decided to leave....Hughes looks the best of that lot at the moment, but I don't think he's good enough to take over a club of the Scum's standing yet...

Rafa obviously has a strong affiliation with Real but I can't honestly seeing him managing them unless there was a major overhaul in the way they operate. His hands would be tied too much and I can't see him standing for that like he did at Valencia.

I think Rafa has fallen for Liverpool, the history and the philosophy of the club. In his first season hearing him talk about how his wife would read all about Shanks and the history of the club and telling him how important all these things are to the (Red) people of Liverpool and the fans of the club. I think he will be here for a long time and as he and Stevie G have both said maybe one day pass on the reins to him.

To answer the question though, if he did leave and we couldn't get King Kenny back into the hot seat then I'd like to see Steven Gerrard manage Liverpool (Carra as assistant). Player/coach style in like Kenny did and hope that he got the same kind of reaction that Kenny got out of the team.

Not sure I'd fancy Gerrard as manager.

He couldn't make his mind whether to stay or go to the Chavs!

Carra - I can understand. Stevie - not so sure.
