Benayoun and Torres (positive knee jerk thread)

Can be the best strike partnership seen at Anfield since Beardo/Aldo.

I'm not kidding. They were phenomenal today. Phenomenal. From the moment Kuyt moved to the right and Benayoun went behind Torres, our attack was spectacular.

This is no coincidence. Yossi has proven he is a big game player on many occasions. There is absolutely no justification to his "squad player" tag anymore. He's a match winner and he was our MOTM today. Amazing amazing performance and I'm just gutted it wasn't enough for today.

We should be playing 4-4-2 until the end of the season with these two up front and with Alonso/Gerrard in the middle.

    My 2p.

I have said this when Benayoun signed. He is exactly in the Beardsley mould. Cracking player, I would definitely play him against teams like Stoke at home mainly because he can carve something out of nothing.

His harrying and jostling was needed against a shaky Arsenal defence. I hope he can carry that next season.

I don't need to say anything new about Torres. He is magic.

I'd have no problem with Yossi and Torres up front permanent.

      With Gerrard feeding from middle.

I do think Benayoun is massively under-rated he's a very clever player, but he's still behind Gerrard in the line for that position. And I'm not exactly sure where else he can fit into the team
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Not for me. I'm happy with Stevie and Torres up top. But I'm happy to concede we have found suitable cover for Gerrard.
          Forwards.......

Benni is by far the best with the ball at his feeet in this liverpool team imo.

He's been in great form recently. Fought for every ball tonight.

Benayoun is better than Gerrard in that position and I'll explain.

Gerrard will still be given the license to burst forward if he's partnered with Alonso in the middle, he might even get more space playing there.

Look what Essien did to him in the CL, he's prone to being marked out of the game against top sides there. Benayoun doesn't need space, he's clever enough to thread an attack in tight areas, which makes him invaluable for us.

                    Alonso Gerrard
                    Benayoun
                    Torres

                    is better than

                    Alonso Masch
                    Gerrard
                    Torres

Benayoun was just immense tonight - he really led by example and showed just what a great player he is.

He has forced his way into teh team on merit and Rafa will have to make some very tricky selection decisions in the upcoming matches.

Why change what has got us into this position?

I thought Nando, Benni and Kuyt all linked very well, even in the first half. Not much between the three in terms of performance.

Gerrard was injured against Chelsea BTW.

He was playing with an injury and of course he can be marked out of a game occasionally, you cant just go and dominate a top side every time you play there otherwise they wouldnt be a top side, they'll get the better of him and he'll get the better of them sometimes.

They are one of the best partnerships in world football it'd be crazy to split them up. Yossi is playing great at the minute but as soon as we lost with him there they'd be a call for change again.

I'd rather keep his roll as it is, a very valuable squad player who will get plenty of starts.
