But reputations are largely built on what the player has done. You rarely get a player who has a reputation for being brilliant, without having done something on the pitch to build that reputation.Originally posted by dww View PostI'm not sure they have had more impact this season. I don't see why reputation should be the deciding factor here and not results produced on the pitch.
If you were offered a straight swap, Berbatov and Tevez for Yossi and Kuyt, would you seriously turn it down?

I would bit yer hands off......then sell Berba for 20million and buy back Yossi and KuytOriginally posted by Craig_H View PostBut reputations are largely built on what the player has done. Berbatov just doesn't do it for me.
And while I agree with your point about United having more match winners, I think their win this year is more down to their previous experience and larger squad (and a sprinkling of luck)
Tevez leaving United could also backfire as they'd probably replace him with another expensive striker - Benzema perhaps?!
Hopefully next year we'll have the tremendous experience gained from this year, plus a couple of quality additions, and a weaker United.James Philip Milner Fanclub #1

I'd be pretty 50:50. I'd think Yossi and Kuyt scored more goals this season. I think that Berbatov in particular has only been good because Ronaldo and Rooney offer so much off him. For us I suspect he would get in the way of Torres.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostBut reputations are largely built on what the player has done. If we sign Tevez, not only do we increase ours, but we reduce their's too. Bit like a 6 pointer match.
Precisely.
We've all debated about who could come in but above all they have to be a major goal threat.

Berbatov in our team would ruin us imo....our team is built on a work ethic and a togetherness, Berba maybe talented but he is 1 bad apple and not sure Kuyt would be appreciative of putting in so much hard work only to see Berbatov puffing on a fag waiting by the goalline,Originally posted by dww View PostI'd be pretty 50:50. That is a large part in what makes me undecided. Although to be fair Rooney and Tevez put in huge shifts to make him work for United. I'm almost 100% sure at some stage Craig has made the argument that the best player for one team is not the best for all teams during the millions of how many of our team would get into their team threads.Originally posted by red g View PostBerbatov in our team would ruin us imo....our team is built on a work ethic and a togetherness, Berba maybe talented but he is 1 bad apple and not sure Kuyt would be appreciative of putting in so much hard work only to see Berbatov puffing on a fag waiting by the goalline,"The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I feel this has been a watershed season for Kuyt, scoring the amount of goals he has from the positions he's played, seems better equipped for the Prem to me nowOriginally posted by Craig_H View PostAlternatively, Kuyt might appreciate the title winners medal that he'd possible win, if we'd had a goalhanger like Berbatov to convert some of the chances that the likes of Kuyt himself have often missed.
We need others to weigh in more regularly though, if Yossi can start the season as he finished this one for instance there's extra goals in the bag right there, a few headed goals from our defenders at corners too would help, lots to improve on, and all things that we are capable of improving on.
Add to that a couple of good buys and we won't be far away, maybe even 1st.

I have indeed. More due to what kind of players each respective side already has and where it is strong. For example, Carrick is a very good CM but wouldnt get in our side - that doesnt make him bad, it just means we're very strong in CM.Originally posted by dww View PostThat is a large part in what makes me undecided. In terms of matchwinners, we're not strong, however.

Torres 16
Kuyt 15
Benayoun 8
Keane 7
Ronaldo 26
Rooney 20
Tevez 15
Berbatov 14
Vidic 7
Nani 6
If we can assume that Agger will score about same as vidic next year and our front 2 will score about same as those ****s next year ( think we can gt a few more actually)
then to me the difference is 1 match Winner, and maybe another 1 from the bench_____________________________________
