Oh dear. I can see there being all sorts of trouble about this.

Let's just remember this is exactly the kind of commercial acumen that many of us were saying was 'missing' from our club, just a few years ago.
              Really?

Yes - there is a choice of outlook here.

On the one hand, the club is exploiting it's commercial value and maximising its income.

On the other hand, you basically have to pay stand in a queue for the privilege of having the option of paying for a product in the future, if you are lucky.

You decide which side of the fence to sit on.
                  Oh I don't know.

Interestingly a Manure fan in the office got a call the other day asking if he wanted his season ticket (which he only signed up for 2 months ago) he said he really needed a kids one as well (or maybe a family one) and they said they had over a thousand coming back from a credit card promotion they were doing. They also have a ticket exchange thing where if your a season ticket holder but cannot make the game then you can sell the tickets to the ticket exchange and recoup some of your money.

Sounds like LFC might be trying something similar, but also with a guaranteed number of tickets, sounds like a good idea, get a limited number of occasional fans to attend, boosts revenue in the shops, food etc that the regulars do not spend money at every game.

Also interesting that the Manure season ticket list is so short (yet ours is horrendously long) and that a special promotion is having so family/kids season tickets left over.

Those 5000 tickets are the old priority ticket scheme tickets aren't they?

Basically, it's a purely commerical project designed to line the coffers of the club.

Whats wrong with that then ? do you not want them to have money to buy new players ?

I personally think they should go further and crack down on the people with multiple season tickets and people that sell tickets onto touts, much rather the club make more money than some dodgy website or bloke flogging tickets outside the stadium.

Never said there was anything wrong with it - just saying it for what it is; a purely commercial enterprize.

Touting obviously is a serious problem but all major clubs have it and it's so far ingrained into the fabric of football it would be very difficult to remove.

Porbably mentioned this before but I went to the Manchester U v Liverpool during the 07/08 season on "corporate" only it wasn't really that corporate, instead some bloke (a tout) had a Gola bag full of season tickets (I'd say at least 50 tickets) which he dished out to people, you then went to see the game and afterwards you went for a meal at a local hotel - 3 course, sit down, loads of wine etc, and handed the ticket book back to him. Other than the seat nothing else was official.

The black and grey market surrounding football matches is a huge problem.

The problem is that this is replacing the PTS. The PTS was an old scheme with many fewer members that was closed to new applications. If you were in the PTS you were pretty much guaranteed tickets. Now PTS is being merged with the main scheme and instead of competing against 10000 people for tickets you are competing against 100,000.

Most PTS members are locals so they are convinced this is an attempt to give more tickets to OOT'ers.
