Rafael Benitez today reflected on Xabi Alonso's imminent move to Real Madrid and insisted: "We'll bring in the best replacement."
Alonso successfully completed a medical in the Spanish capital today after the two clubs agreed the terms of his transfer.

"We would like to keep him but as soon as he told us that he wanted to leave we started working, looking for players and trying to do the best deal for the club," said the Liverpool manager.

"It has been too long, since May, that he told us he wanted to leave and after the official transfer request we were working very hard.

"The first idea was to keep him, and the second one was to find the best price and the best replacement for us."

    Forwards.......

So we've been looking since May for possible replacements.

Xabi was my favourite player until Momo signed, now maybe Momo could fill the void left by Xabi.

Nah, I would like to get someone in who can play the Xabi role, I just don’t know who. I can’t remember seeing too much of Martinez, but I was always hoping if we did sign him he might be as successful as Xabi, purely because he’s Spanish and Javi sounds like Xabi.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I think number 1 for me would be Villa, but think he may be a bit out of our price range. But maybe 30m for Alonso combined with sale of Dosenna, Arbeloa, and maybe the sale of some other players and selling the tea lady we raise 50m and get him in.

Change to 4-4-2 and get Gerrard back in CM where he can get games by the scruff of the neck and turn them round bossing the centre of the park and burst into the box to score.

            Imagine.................

            ----------------Villa-----Torres----------------
            Riera---------Mascherano--Gerrard-------Kuyt-
            Insua---------Agger------Carra---------Johnson
            -------------------Reina----------------------

That is a title winning 11!

I would like a player with strong, direct dribbling skills or a player with a bit of craft. John Barnes or Peter Beardsley in their prime would do nice.

On Fantasy Football note, I have been really impressed with Arshavin, I think he will be strong contender for Footballer of the year.

You never know, they're selling everybody else! A £30m bid may tempt ol' Turkey neck

Thiery Henry remains an outside possibility

I'd be quite happy if we signed a top class attacker/striker - say for aguements sake villa - and also a centre mid to cover xabi, say this defour lad - at least then some of the spotlight and pressure of replacing xabi will be taken of the centre mid as everyone would be talking about the other guy.

Lets test Arsenals resolve with a bid for Fabregas, no harm in trying.

                          -----------------Reina----------------
                          Johnson----Carra----Skrtel----Insua
                          ------Mascherano---Fabregas--------
                          --Kuyt-------Gerrard-------Riera-----
                          --------------Torres------------------

Fabregas would be a hell of a replacement and seeing as Arsenal are Man City feeder club, I wonder how much they would part with him for??

                            Adebayour - 25m
                            Toure - 15m
                            Fabregas - 40m-50m???

Its going to be Aquilani who replaces him.

What would people offer for Fabregas?

I dont think he'd come to us either.
