I couldn't agree more mate, we have been absolutely awful but the officials have played their part too (see my other post with regards to Atkinson refereeing this fixture for a 2nd successive season after last seasons).

Re Gerrard as a second striker, where he is playing tonight he played all last season and scored over 20 goals. Either there or right midfield are his best positions. He has been his most productive in those positions, especially where goals are concerned. I do not think he would be as productive playing alongside Mascha!

That's just a ****ing cop out, Lucas is just of the players who hasn't been anywhere near good enough so far tonight, add Gerrard, Torres, Benayoun, Mascherano to that list too

He's a good player but he is not capable of playing as a playmaker.

That said he is hardly being helped by what's in front of him. So far this season Kuyt and Torres in particular have looked absoloute rubbish. Torres looks jaded and the problem with having no money is the inability to play someone instead and ease him back into the season. He was poor against Spurs and poor against Stoke, despite the goal. It may just be lack of match fitness.

As I said before today we need to get a result tonight and just keep plugging away until we can bring in Aquilani to help link midfield and attack.

On the plus side I was sitting watching this on my laptop with a jerky feed, and then i discovered it was on in HD on ESPN 2....

The only consolation for me personally is that it was obvious with the signings we'd made that we hadn't a pot to piss in and were therefore going to get no closer than last year, while other sides spent big and moved past us. I'm disappointed as a fan naturally but genuinely not gutted by this start to the season as for me it was always on the cards due to a failure to build on last year's platform...instead of a few key, class signings, we've shed personnel and basically moved a few things around a bit, but failed to add to the overall sum of the parts.

Fourth place squabbling again by the looks of it. And blame lies mostly with the ****ing yanks IMHO.

Exactly how I feel & it makes me ****ing sick.
