He's definitely not ****, that kind of logic really is the kind of comments I was talking about. Technically he's miles ahead of the likes of Diao for an easy example of a much worse player.

I wasn't making the point about Lucas from a tactical standpoint as it's obvious that he's no Alonso in style or quality. I'm just saying that there's no other real options at the moment and that he's not horrific. I even said myself that I don't particularly rate him highly but he's what we have so he might as well start. The dropping Gerrard back call doesn't do it for me because instead of Lucas it will be some other player like Voronin, Ngog or Babel getting the criticism.

Best case scenario Aquilani slots into the first team well and he makes the place his own, leaving Lucas to a squad role which will suite all involved. Whilst Aquilani is not fit I don't really see any other options but to play him.
    Are you Sissoko?

Dropping Gerrard back is the only way forward at the moment, everything comes through midfield and I think I'd give Benny a run out alongside Torres.

"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

What is a problem is that we are a very small side when we line up for set pieces and as such will concede goals no matter what system we use to mark players, and it is also why we tend to not score that many from set pieces. I think we lack a Terry/Vidic type player who attacks the ball and wins it. We have brave defenders in Skrtel and Carra but they've never been that great in the air at set pieces.

I have said this for a while - our football is just too static at times - too many players standing still. More movement is required to give the player in possession more options.

Hats off to GJ tonight though. What a start he has had to the season, pity the others (Pepe apart) haven't followed suit.

It was a bit of a freak result but it happens to be on the back of another bad result where we were comprehensively beaten (due to lack of effort...not what tonights result was about) which makes it seem worse. I still think we'll do well this season.

There's no ****ing excuse for it. All these people saying ah so what it's early days, people need to take a chill pill can go to **** for all i care. Two matches out of three this season we have been bloody dreadful and already we've lost the same amount of games as we did all last season.
People really should be more worried than they are. We'll finish 5th or 6th if we continue to play like this.
We ran our bollocks off. If we finish 5th I'll cut off my nutsack and mail you it

It was an awful performance. This side won't win the title.

Is that before or after you run your bollocks off?

Yes the same Stoke we drew with 0-0 at home last season but with Alonso playing.

Now I'm not sticking up for Lucas as I just can't make my mind up about him but while Alonso is a much better player he was not the player that made us the team we were last season.

I'm not exactly a Lucas fan, I don't think he's horrendous he's just a solid footballer in my eyes but seriously the way people go on with him is a bit ridiculous at times. Reminds me a bit of Sissoko who played very well here for most of his time then had a bad half a season and everyone crucified him.

Also, I like the fact that after 3 games people are making such strong predictions. If later in the season we're really going well and making a push at finishing top then all of this will be forgotten. 2 losses is a bitch, but overall it's too early to pass any strong judgement although it must be said we do look quite wank in present.

If we get on a run of 10 consecutive wins, everything will change. And we're capable of that.

He was fantastic last season. We can all point to games where one player played and another didn't where we either lost or won (depending on what argument you're making), but the fact is that on the whole, Alonso was a superb player and on the whole Lucas has been average.

Not with the current crop of players we're not. Maybe if Aquilani is a success then yes.

I'd love to able to ask Gerrard and Carragher to what they make of our chances. Must be even worse for Carra. I can't see him being an automatic starter for LFC for too many seasons.

I've been telling my dad every season that next year would be our year. I'm glad to say that I'll be ringing him again saying that it's going to be definitely this year!

What will come first? England winning the world cup or Liverpool winning the title?
