Reckon Rafa might see any of this money in January?

Manchester United and Liverpool receive huge cash windfalls
    02 September 2009 | By Adam Fraser

English Premier League champions Manchester United received a huge windfall from last season's Premier League's broadcast rights, which saw the league pay out more than UK£1 billion for the first time.

United and Liverpool topped the list of earnings, with the Premier League champions collecting £51.5 million. Liverpool also broke the £50 million mark, albeit narrowly, collecting £50.1 million. The totals represented approximately 20 per cent of United's total annual revenues, and an even more significant proportion of Liverpool's.

The 20 Premier League clubs collected a total of £790 million, with £70 million of parachute payments made to clubs relegated into the Championship and a further £136 million distributed throughout the game.
    Fat chance, i'd say.

          Trick question?

Rafa is fat, so there might be a chance.

I just spoke to Rafa and he said that there's a greater chance of him observing the holy month of Ramadan next year than him getting any money to spend in January

And was it Craig who said that you couldn't make money out of buying a football club?

I don't think they can carry on like this though for too long, if they don't give Rafa any cash we wont get better and fall behind and out of the top four, lose CL money and get lesser TV money. We have to be successful to make money and they might get away with one season where they don't let Rafa spend but not many more.
                * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

The yanks will be here as long as there is still an upwuards curve of monies from Sky/Sponsorship etc.....once that bubble bursts they will go.

Maybe they depend on the CL Money but realistically its probably going to be next season at the earliest we are out of the top 4.

So cant see them going till they have royally ****ed us over tbh

                  Ps thanks Moores again

Well, yeah, I agree with that, using this tactic, squeezing us for every penny for 2-5 years by then we should be in a poor position indeed.

Yes i did say that and it's still true.

In order to get top TV revenues, you need to spend fortunes to be one of the top clubs. That's on top of the few hundred million to buy the club in the first place.

£50m doesnt even touch the sides.

Indeed...how to be successful in business...by a worldwide brand, run it into the ground at a loss, sell for a deficit on what you originally paid...yeah, that'll work.

Pure speculation from myself, but maybe they are channeling all the funds to commence work on the stadium, that's where the real money is. Arsenal were hamstrung in the transfer market whilst the Emirates was being built.

Liverpool to benefit as Tom Hicks lines up buyers
                            03 September 2009 | By Adam Fraser

The financial concerns that have dogged English soccer club Liverpool could be a thing of the past if the club's co-owner, Tom Hicks, completes the US$600 million sale of the Texas Rangers, and focuses his interests on the Premier League.

Hicks, who dissolved Hicks Sports Marketing Group earlier this summer, was reportedly forced to depend on US$15 million from Major League Baseball to help pay wages at the franchise in August. Despite that, he appeared to rethink his decision to sell, announcing, "There is a way [to keep the team], and I'm working on that. So we'll see."

However, sources close to Hicks now insist he will sell. According to Sports Business Journal, the Texas Rangers have received letters from six prospective buyers. That is good news for Liverpool, where there has been widespread dissatisfaction with Hicks and his co-owner, George Gillett, since their takeover in 2007. Now, with both men consolidating their interests, it appears that Liverpool will have an increased amount of attention - and financial support - from the two Americans.

"The process is moving forward and we're encouraged by what's happening there," said Bob DuPuy, MLB's president and chief operating officer, to SBJ.

All very true but Wenger inherited a better side and had years to put his youth policy into place so the club could compete without a big transfer budget during and after the building of their new stadium, Rafa only took charge of the youth this year so realisticaly we're looking at 3-5 years before we see that bear fruit.

We'll be lucky to still have Rafa here then if the Yanks don't back him in the transfer market
