Will be interesting to see how that develops, personally don't buy that but we'll see, we lost Xabi, Sami and Arbeloa off the books plus Itandje, and brought in Johnson, Sotiris and Alberto plus the raises for some senior players, doubt it. It would mean something like 380.000 extra per week. Lets say the senior players, Agger, Yossi, Kuyt, Torres and Gerrard all got 30.000 each that would make it 150.000 extra a week. Then the difference in wages between the new players vs. the outgoing should be something like 230.000.

Simplistic I know, but I just don't believe Purslow or the clowns.

Maybe Signing on fees were a factor in Purslow saying that they spent 20m on wages ?

Matchday revenue. They charge far more for tickets, corporate hospitality etc. Last time I checked they were pulling in 110m vs our 60m!

The bit in bold makes little difference...ok, so we didn't pay it all in one lump sum, but at the end of the day, we're gonna have to pay it...we probably still owe money for Torres as well, and maybe Johnson, so it all adds up.

It's very rare that players are paid for with one lump sum though, so if we're paying in installments, that's pretty normal. And Pompey owed us £7m on Crouch still, so that comes out of the Johnson fee.

It's just very dodgy when you think about the intentions of demanding the full cash for Alonso, yet paying in installments for Aquilani.

Possibly. But it might just be that everyone knows how minted Madrid are and how desperate they were for Alonso.

But what difference does it make getting the money now or later. I personally think the money just went towards paying off other debts.
