If i had a kid who was trying for a contract and he was offered a trial with the mancs, of course i'd let him. This is your kid's future and the opportunity to secure him for life. Which parent would be selfish enough to say no?

The only issue is the age thing. Sending a kid of 6 for a massive trial like that, is insane IMO. Far too young.

He should contact Liverpool, tell them about the offer from Man Utd and see if he can go to Liverpool instead. If we do not take him then he should go to Utd.

Seriously though i think it's a bit crazy to be having trials at 6 years old. I'd have serious reservations about my sons playing for any team at that age. Saying that though i'm about to start taking my 3 yr old to lads and dads footy which is organised by Manchester City.

seriously though, u would have to let him have the trial its an opportunity not to be missed, but at 6 years old the kids are absolutely awful and have no grasp of the game technically. I think this is a problem with the English roots system as a whole. Young kids are not allowed to enjoy their football and develop individual flair and natural talent because they get picked up and turned into drones.

Let them play in the streets and on the parks like in brazil etc. until there about 11-12 then pick them up i say.

I agree with what you're saying, but it's interesting to note that when Ajax were sweeping all before them and Holland made two World Cup finals, a key factor in the development of Dutch players was that teams like Ajax were taking kids on at 7 or 8 and nurturing them for a decade or more.

The theme at the time was that if only English clubs did the same our clubs and national sides would be much better off for doing it. When I was at school Liverpool and Everton weren't really interested in kids until they were about 15.

The Dutch model was seen as the ideal template for player development. Ironic really.
