I can see that Benayoun is a better playmaker but I think people are being unfair on Kuyt's awareness and movement. He possibly doesn't have the touch in the sense of instant one touch football on the edge of the box but his lay offs are often sharp and quick which if people run off/past him will open up defenses.
If we can't try and get players to play in a slightly new way against the likes of Debrecni then we do have problems.

The team looked disjointed last night but for my money the major culprits were Gerrard and Skrtel actually. They made too many low odds decisions deep and didn't help us to build a possession game and looked to quickly the launch the ball. All the defenders in fact needed to look for quick simple balls to feet more often - that is usually something Johnson in particular is excellent at.

Last night on several occasions Lucas offered a nice option safe, simple and central and was ignored for some daft launch up field or eye of the needle ball to Riera or Benayoun. Insua doesn't escape from that criticism but he was probably the least bad offender and while he had an average game it was hardly a poor one. He has been a solid left back who is willing to get forward all season. He has been over praised in my opinion but that doesn't mean he is deserving of reactionary criticism now.

He is certainly a more worthy possessor of the 'undoubted potential' tag than Babel. Who to be fair to him made a decent cameo last night.

totally agree, i thought i was going mad - i thought last night, and so far this season, Kuyt's first touch has been 10x better (it no longer goes straight up in the air), he looks as sharp as anyone which means his awareness and movement has been excellent, has been holding the ball up well, and all round he has played pretty decent and consistent.

Plus i am quite pleased with the goals he has scored. Poacher goals that we have lacked for ages - the type of goals a fowler or Aldo, or even van nisteelrooy for the mancs used to score - reacting to dodgy bounces, deflections, following in shots etc. I expect people will use the typical arguement of well he is a striker thats what he should - ffs give him a break - sometimes there is just no pleasing some people - they expect every single player to peform like Pele on speed, for every single minute.

He has been fantastic up to now. Last night he wasn't very good, but one bad game and already people are questioning him. Aurelio is a fantastic player but, as we know, very injury-prone. I think he should be our first choice when fit but i see Insua as a very able, solid and progressing backup.

Anyone know why he changed the balance of attack by switching Carra and Gerrard to the left hand side of their positions? The left is generally our defensive side with most attacks focused down the right.

On Insua, I think he’s a very good player with enormous potential. He’s economical on the ball, very skilful and likes to get stuck in. I don’t see what he did wrong last night. It’s also worth mentioning that in all his appearances for us he has not had one noticeably bad performance or been involved in any serious **** ups, whereas two experienced internationals and have been involved in numerous in probably less games.

When fit aurelio will be first choice left back, with insua as his competition, it's great that he is getting games and the chance at the moment, and given time, patience etc he will continue to develop.

People slate rafa for not trying out the youngsters, and when he uses clearly the best of the bunch people slag the kid off

I love it how some people are convinced that the likes of nemeth, Plessis, Spearing etc are potential superstars, should be given more first team opportunites, yet Insua (who surely noone can argue with this, is streets ahead of those three in terms of development and being ready for 1st team football) isn't good enough despite the fact that I believe he is YOUNGER than all three!!!

          from the official
Nemeth - Date of Birth: 05/01/1989
Spearing - Date of Birth: 25/11/1988
Plessis - Date of Birth: 05/03/1988
Insua - Date of Birth: 07/01/1989
          Well said.

Agree again, although I do think the bad touch theory is gravely exaggerated because a few dodgy months when he was struggling.

Insua is quality and is fast becoming one of my favourite players. I just don't feel comfortable with Auerlio although he is better on the ball.

This does seem to be one of those threads picking on a player for one really bad performance. I thought he was dreadful Wednesday night. Most of his passes went astray, or played the receiver into difficulty. Most of his crosses went nowhere. He was easily pushed off the ball, and looked out of his depth. But, and it is a big BUT, he has played much better and he is very very young and inexperienced. he needs games against the likes of Debrecen to improve, otherwise he'll never be a better player. Give the kid time.

I think there must be a glitch in the matrix. I could've sworn I just saw Marky fail to substantiate his bull**** thread. Again.

I think the sentinels are on to us.

Insua is vastly overrated. I thought he was very poor again today. what does he offer really?
