Its been said before, but please do tell me how the left back position has been changed for the better by selling Riise and replacing (?) him with a slow kid with no confidence and another player who had a shocking injury record even before he joined Liverpool.

yep, I'd take Riise over our options. Any day.

Rafa was right to ship Riise out.

Insua's had some shockers but he's also showed some promise, especially going forward and at home, however, he's been targeted and exposed defensively on a number of occasions. To be fair to the lad though he's been thrust into a struggling first team due to Aurelio being made of glass and Dossenas's departure. For me the jury's well and truly still out regarding whether he'll make it as our first choice LB.

I expect a new first choice left back will be high up Rafa's shopping list for the summer, whether he'll get one is another matter.

It's true he needs to learn, but you don't teach someone to drive on a motorway!

Why was he right to ship riise out? Not that i disagree but you cant just say that and not explain why....well you can but its ****.

Riise was ****ing terrible, shooting from 40 yards every single game so he had to go.
I think Rafa thought that with Dossena and Aurelio he would be able to use Insua sparingly but because one is permanently injured and other found to be not good enough and sent on his way he has played far more than anyone would like.

At the end of the day he is 21 and has the most assists for us this season in open play, also worth mentioning that it can't be easy playing behind Riera/Babel/Benayoun as none of those help him in the slightest, if he played behind Kuyt all the time a lot of his flaws wouldn't be so exposed.

i feel sorry for insua at the minute. he's clearly not playing well and has made some serious mistakes.

he needs a break from the first team to learn from his experiences this season and come back a refreshed and better player for the next campaign.

Defensively he has to improve though and im sure with rafa with him he will but at times he has shown himself to be a liability and teams playing us are starting to target him.

Its not fair on the kid really, he shouldnt be in the firing line when he's not ready and needs a rest but one way to look at it is that at least he's standing up and hasnt asked to be left out of the first team.

He could be within his rights to ask rafa to give him a break but ive never heard him complain that he's playing too many games, that he's tired and he hasnt had enough support. We dont have another fit left back at the club and insua is our only option.

For that alone we should be trying to support this kid and get him through the bad times but we need to keep a close eye on him because we may need to spend big on another first choice left back and let insua learn his trade under him.

He's young and we've got to get behind him.

I'm quite suprised at that, have you got a link to assist stats, I'd be quite interested to see it

I guess Insua being top of that highlights a major attacking flaw in that the midfield aren't creating enough.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

No pace on the wings and no decent striker to play a loan forward role while Torres was out to hold the ball up while Kuyt etc. caught up with play.

It was right to let Riise go. He had served us well but his play was so one dimensional and I have never seen anyone so one footed in all my life. We needed something better to progress as a team.

However, neither Aurelio (sick note), Insua (way too inexperienced) or that italian (so fecking useless I actually have taken a blank on his name!) are up to it as a long term replacement.

I'll try and find it, think it might have been on the offal but anyway wherever it was had Insua 2nd to Gerrard in terms of assists and as our skipper takes goal kicks, free kicks, throw ins and corners I presume some of his assists come from set plays!

You have to feel sorry for Insua he isn't good enough to be starting week in week out for a top 4 side, he really should still be playing Carling cup games and the odd home game against cannon fodder, but thanks to Aurelio being made entirely out of injuries and Rafa ****ing up royally by signing Dossena (and even moreso by shipping him out without any backup for Insua) he's had to play every game. In front of some of the most unforgiving fans on the planet it seems.
He's made mistakes, his confidence looks a bit battered at the minute. But he's a kid. He can still be coached on things like positioning. I can't help that feel a few months out of the firing line up (and a better defensive coach than pellegrino) and he'd start to show some of the potential many of us saw in the reserves and youth teams a few years ago
I'm unconvinced he'll get a chance now many fans have decided he's fat, slow, inept etc.
Here's hoping he prooves the doubters wrong.
