In front of some of the most unforgiving fans on the planet it seems.
    He's made mistakes, his confidence looks a bit battered at the minute. But he's a kid. He can still be coached on things like positioning. I can't help that feel a few months out of the firing line up (and a better defensive coach than pellegrino) and he'd start to show some of the potential many of us saw in the reserves and youth teams a few years ago
    I'm unconvinced he'll get a chance now many fans have decided he's fat, slow, inept etc.
    Here's hoping he prooves the doubters wrong.

      I remain baffled as to how anyone knows how good a coach Pellegrino is.

      I agree with the sentiment though that people have to accept growing pains with young players, especially defenders as they gain experience. I think Insua is likely to come back for next season a better player for the rough ride he has had this season. We do obviously need an alternative option and it would have been nice if say Kelly had got the odd chance in that position.

        Simple equation really
        Liverpool = different class defensively
        pellegrino signs as player
        Liverpool = all over the ****ing place
        pellegrino leaves
        Liverpool = different class defensively
        pellegrino returns
        Liverpool all over the ****ing place defensively.

        I didn't rate him at Valencia where Ayala constantly covered for his slow ass. I hated him at Liverpool where he was ****ing awful and made Palleta look like Maldini. He has no coaching experience and I've seen nothing from him or our formerly world class defence to suggest he knows in any way shape or form what the **** he's doing.
        Obviously it doesn't help when his boss ships out defensively sound players like Hyppia, Finnan and Riise and replaces them with the likes of Dossena, Johnson, Degen et al who can't defend for toffee.
        Maybe I'm blaming the wrong man, but **** it, I've enough things to blame Rafa for already.

          Ridiculously oversimplified and inaccurate.
          Before Pellegrino joined, we were poor defensively and he help our defence adjust to zonal marking and feel free to ignore other issues such as injuries and bedding in new defenders though.
          Tabloid level deduction there.

                I thought it was clear. Apologies.
                I have no idea what influence he has over our defence. Given Rafas obsessive compulsive control freak nature probably in effect not very much.
                He is inexperienced though.

                    No worries. I don't really say very much that shouldn't be taken with a massive pinch of salt.
                    Pellegrino could be the best defensive coach in the world, but I'll still rattle into him (and everyone else) once in a while, coz....ya know.....it's fun.

                      Anyone see Joe Coles goal for Chelsea today? see what Red Nev with 15 years and 600 games behind him did???
                      Yep that's right exactly the same thing as Insua did at OT went with the run instead of staying with the man.

                      The current microwave culture where everyone wants instant success and mistake free performances from a 21 year old is pretty unrealistic imo.

                          I think the point is that liverpools's first team shouldn't be a training ground for dodgy 21 year old defenders to learn the basics. He could do that on loan. We should have a lb with experience when the first choice lb is made of glass. Play youngsters when they are ready, and Insua really isn't.

                              I can't think of a defender in 20 years that's not got better with age?
