    Cautious Liverpool, defensive Benitez

During the game on Saturday evening, that thick cunt Chris Waddle said "Benitez is a cautious manager, we all know that...they are a defensive team"

Last season's highest goalscorers, the ever-cautious Liverpool, have now scored three goals or more in 14 of their last 20 games.

Please use this thread to post your stats, facts and figures to dispel this ****ing infuriating received wisdom bull****.

Chris waddle talks nothing but twaddle, never heard so much ****e coming from a pundits gob, christ he even makes Andy Gray seem unbiased.

I honestly can't remember anything he said that was positive about either team. If he wasn't slaggin off the zonal deffence he was slagging of west ham for sitting to deep, or he was slaggin of Raffa/ Zola for being too cautious.

      The guy is a 1st class tw@tt

He's a dick. Watching our games recently shows me things have changed, Rafa wants Full backs who push forward. How high up the pitch or GJ/Insua all the time? We're constantly attacking, (as best as) our system has changed. Can this twonk not see it? We're conceding a few as we adapt to the changes, some pundits really have no clue

The problem with pundits is that they probably see far less of us than you and I do. So when something changes it takes a while to sink in. Add to that the herd instinct among journos and pundits and it takes a determined effort to get them to the tipping point. Finally on top of that remember they are not watching the game to see what is happening in terms of the play etc, they are so busy looking for talking points they miss the fact that the FBs have been parked in the final 3rd for most of the game.

Streams with over-excitable oriental commentators = most viewing pleasure, trust me.

there was an incident not so long ago where a lad got booked in a sunday league match, when asked for his name he replied "chris twaddle" - the referee thought he was taking the piss and asked him again - once more the reply was "chris twaddle" - the lad was then sent off for taking the piss and would have been suspended and had to pay about an £80 fine until the league eventually withdrew the redcard once he proved his real name was in fact Chris Twaddle

I don't think we're conceding due to changes in the system - no-one has scored in open play against us yet! It's why I'm getting very optimistic about this season, we're more attacking but without looking particularly weaker defensively. Our goals against this season have all been from set pieces and two totally unnecessary penalties conceded by senior players. We need to stop conceding free-kicks in dangerous positions and cut out the individual mistakes. Yesterday all they had was set-pieces and Carra and Skrtel's unforced errors.

Chris Waddle is a dick though. How anyone could describe us as negative or cautious in our approach is beyond me.

Fair point that fella, forgot about the goals from set pieces stat. Hopefully we'll iron that out and all will be good

Don't you think some of the set pieces were conceded because of the change in system though? Would Carragher have been left one on one with Hines? He certainly wasn't in the 2nd half when Johnson adopted a more arbeloa-like role. There have also been counter attacks that IMO would have been snuffed out had we been using two holding midfielders. It's not the problem, but it's definitely contributing IMO.

There is alot of bitterness from these guys from years of going to anfield and getting smashed. Plus most of them can't stand foreign managers because they are more intelligent

Sorry to be pedantic but Spur's wonder goal against us was from open play. Can we all now please put that claim to bed.

It was but I think it stems from the fact it was a Huddlestone free-kick that rebounded back out to Assou-Ekotto.

                            Pundits

The 5 live commentator (not Mark "notso" Bright) said the reason Liverpool look more frail at the back is because they have realised that draws are not so useful after last year, therefore they're pushing forwards more leaving the defence more exposed!

At least one of them is wrong!

I'll listen to what they say but for the most part they just trot out hackneyed cliches trying to sound more insightful than the next worn out has been on the couch! They can only ever see edited highlights, think of champs league night where they all offer brilliant observation on up to 8 matches within minutes of the final whistle

95% of them are of the highest order

                            Except Tommo he's f'in ace

And that is the first time I've used ace in 25 years!!
                            I don't need a lift, I need ammunition

No, it wasnt really - the freekick hit the wall and the rebound was immedietely smashed in. The wall was still set up and the natural 'play' had all of about 1 second to resume.
