    Ha ha ha one summer.

United and Chelsea have had one summer where they spend little money and you're comparing us to them.

I don't want us to spend beyond our means but a 20mil budget is similar to when Moores was in charge plus we never had this debt. Is it not unreasonable to be a little bit pissed at our current situation considering we thought Moores selling the family silver to richer owners would give us the financial clout to compete with the likes of United and Chelsea in the transfer market? Coupled with the fact that clubs like City and Spurs are spending good money it does make me worry.

Buy hey lets now speak ill of the yanks.

60 million would be silly, to be honest I wouldn't be particularly disappointed with a net of at least £20m / season (and the article does say that figure would grow with increased revenue, which is something we have been seeing)..... IF that were actually going to be £20m made available for transfers. However considering Purslow keeps insisting we spent our £20m this summer when anyone with a modicum of sense and a calculator can see that's a very sideways definition of a "transfer budget" I would be inclined to be rather concerned if this is actually true.
According to the Spirit of Shankly group who have recently had a meeting with Purslow things like new contracts will also come out of the budget. So the fact that we gave Gerrard, Torres, Agger etc a new deal means that ate into Rafa's transfer spending plans.

It's not a transfer budget as such, more a signings budget, so it will include things like player signing on fees for new players and existing contract extensions. Sensible enough, and i think £20mil is a minimum number, so with increased revenue that number will get better.

We don't stand a chance of competing if the next five summers will be anything like the last one, if it wasn't for the Alonso sale then all we would have seen would have been the renewed contracts and maybe a under 10 million signing.

We are screwed, it's plain to see really.

And you think the next 5 summers will be like the last one why?

Hate to spoil the drama queen parade but this season a top 4 club budget is averaging in profit.

So we're spending way and above a top 4 budget if that's how we're judging.

Yep, the naivety of some is astonishing, the whole point of this takeover was to get a new stadium and in Gilletts words "dine at the top table". Now we are spending zero net. We've been had, bigtime. It is quite incredible some still cant see it.

That's what this thread is all about.

Documents stating that for the next 4-5 seasons Rafa will have a player budget of £20mil per summer.

This info might be bollocks but it's safe to say that if it is true then we may very well struggle.

Did you have a look at the document Lecter posted? As far as I could make out the £20 million a year was based on increased revenue year on year (extra TV money, extra sponsorship etc). Not sure where you get the idea that the £20 million is a minimum number.

A £20mil signing budget would probably allow for about £10/15 to be spent on actual transfers... sure we had a better budget under Moores! I can't see how people are defending the Americans it baffles me.

Ha ha ha ha it's funny how you will compare one summer with the likes of Chelsea and United but wont take into account the last 3 or 4.

We have never been able to compete financially at the top tier and that is what these owners were brought into do.

Pacman has already answered, I agree, but I don't think this document is bollocks. When looking at the big picture, their past history, the purchase of the club, their operations, the numbers and recent two transfer windows plus the refinancing deal, I think it all points one way, there is just too much evidence pointing towards a meagre future.

So during which of the previous summer did we spend significantly less then the rest of the "top 4"?

I was under the impression that other the Chelsea we've been spending similiar for a while. As the anti rafa brigade used to trot out at every possible opportunity.
