Good point. It hasnt been a good start. We have beaten the so called lesser sides but are struggling against the mid table and top sides. I wouldnt rule out a win against Chelsea, but we need to step it up a couple of gears.Originally posted by flyboy View Postthe points we have managed in the league are all against teams in the bottom half ,we just cant deliver against better sides.chelsea away now looks like an impossible task

Ok.Originally posted by lickedlollipop View Postyou forgot something about Lucas.... Rafa wants him.. so it's his fault... IMO he'd be perfect/great/very good for French/Dutch/Turkish/Belgium league.. so swap him for Defour or Arda Turan

it's tempting to think that that type of performance - esp 1st half - is in us all the time if the right team can play us in the right way...
but i don't think it was representative of anything other than a bad night where a seriously up for it team railroaded our weak midfield and a seriously up for it young striker - who should have been booked at least twice for diving - took advantage of our slackness.
i have concerns that there is zero understanding between skrtel and carra and that skrtel is pretty much nothing more than comedy hardness. he always seems to be chasing after someone. and i share other posters fear that drogba coud destroy both on sunday.
and we seriously did need to get something from that game last night as lyon are playing brilliantly at the moment and second place could go down to our results against fiorentina. not a good night at all.Felching ≠ Gerbilling

I don't think there's a great understanding across the whole back four at the moment, don't think it's a problem relating to just them two. They will get it sorted I'm sure of that.Originally posted by badpiggy View Postit's tempting to think that that type of performance - esp 1st half - is in us all the time if the right team can play us in the right way...

Sunday will be a big task for us especially as Drogba is in fine form at the moment. The defence do need to sort it out though, think that the amount of goals we're leaking is starting to take effect on the team and those guys at the back are bearing the brunt of it.
They're good enough players to know what to do but collectivley, as a unit the whole team should defend.
Last night was a bad night and one that needs eradicating from the memory quite sharply. I'm sure the players will be well focussed and up for the game Sunday.
Looking forward to it.

I agree with all of this.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostI don’t really understand why so many people are so mystified or upset with his lack of Hollywood football. Did you never see Ronnie Whelan? Didier Deschamps? And there’s been loads of others too. He’s a continuity player - he’ll never be spectacular. He’s also getting much braver with his passing and is firing low, hard, forward balls into people’s feet. Not often the final, killer ball – granted - but key passes…look at the ball he played to Babel on Saturday. It wasn’t the final ball but it was the key pass in the move that brought the goal. He played a few of these balls last night too, but they seem to go completely unnoticed.
Admittedly the pairing with Aurelio last night was powderpuff in the extreme and it patently didn’t work. We had no muscle whatsoever and, although Lucas is getting much stronger and harder to knock off the ball, he does need a bit of muscle next to him.
