    4th place & UEFA Cup.

I suppose this all depends on how optimistic you are about tonight, but given this is undoubtedly a transitional season, my question is whether if offered 4th place in the Prem, plus going out of the CL tonight but finishing with another UEFA Cup trophy at the end of the season & CL qualification for next year, would you take it from here with the injuries we have to the squad at the mo? (The bookies have made us favourites for the UEFA Cup apparently).

I think I would to be honest- as long as the Scum or Chavs didnt win the CL. We have a lot of players to come back who will really make us into a very good side again, but I just dont think they will be back soon enough to rescue the league or CL. Plus I want some silverware cos we havent had any since 06.

I guess I am just risk adverse!

    3rd place. Worst champions ever.

I think that 4th place is certainly within our grasp this season, despite the problems we've had so far. I'd prefer us to make it through the group stage of the champions league obviously because as 2005 proved you never know what can happen!

Having said that if we were to go out of the Champions League winning the UEFA Cup is the next best thing, although there is such a vast difference in financial reward between winning the UEFA cup and a decent run in the Champions League. In fact we would almost certainly have made more money from the champions league group stage than we would if we won the UEFA cup. Given the dire financial situation we find ourselves in I'm hoping we can just scrape through the Champions League group. If not I guess winning a trophy is the next best option.

Edit: reading that back sounds like I'm saying financial improvements over winning trophies, I guess at present I would see winning the UEFA Cup as a mark of our failure to progress in the Champions League, maybe that would change if it happens and we've had a few games in it.

Would bite your hand off. Would probably accept 4th with no UEFA cup also.

I'm with you on this one, 4th place all day long for me this season as I think the revenue is absolutely vital to us.
Think it would be hard to finish 4th and win the UEFA Cup because aren't the UEFA Cup games on a Thursday throughout the season??

Yes, but it usually means all the premiership fixtures afterwards get moved to sunday

              What a load of bollox.

I want us to go out try and win every single game between now and the end of the season.

Having seen the squad issues that Lyon have, I'm pretty confident that we can still qualify for the knockout stages of the CL. I also think that we'll pretty comfortably make the top 4, our injury problems can't last ALL season surely!

Push for the title and nothing less. Why the **** bother if we arent pushing for the title. All the top teams will lose, African Nations cup, players will come back stronger fitter, other teams will have their wobbles, we might not have the CL to worry about etc etc.

Only the very best effort is good enough for us, never ever stop fighting untill long after the fat chick has lost her voice, had two pies for supper and has gone to bed.

FFS Im glad some of you lot are not serving in Afghanistan, show some balls when the chips are down.

You've accepted defeat. Cream hasn't. There's the difference.

I can't quite believe what I'm reading on this site. We will finish 4th all day long, no ****ing problems. There is an international break coming up this month and after that we will likely have evryone back fit.

We've been ****ing abysmal so far by our lofty standards and yet after Monday night we could still be only 7 points of top spot. The same position we were in after Man Utd away last season, taking into account the Mancs games in hand.

If we can get the points difference down to 6 points after the Xmas period then we have a real fighting chance of winning the league, provided we get a cleaner bill of health.

It will be difficult to win the league, but not impossible. Why the hell would anyone even contemplate taking 4th spot?

That's fair enough, but I think your outlook is crazily positive ad over optimistic.

It's as much the uefa cup thing to be honest. I will be an uphill struggle and I really want some silverwear. I know we'd be worse off financially going out of the CL but eve so.

We won't win the league, you can quote me on that.

Not sure why that's in the filter here to be honest, it isn't on other places that are more mainstream. Seems unnecessarily PC.
