I think Riera was a steal at 6-7mil, Babel hasn't worked, but we were all happy when he arrived. Kuyyt is one of the most productive wingers in the EPL whatever anyone may think about his style. We got Pennant because we didn't have the money for Simao, he is the perfect example of the difference between having money to invest and having to sell to buy.
Zonal marking has made us the best at defending set-pieces over the last 5 years, even if we are now being found out, I think Raffa will have to change something about this, maybe go to a half zone. But the rest of the comments about our squad now, relative to last year, is emotional nonsense. Arbeloa for Johnson and Xabi for Aquilani, shouldn't leave us suddenly with a weaker squad, we just aren't getting the overacieving results of last season.
That and we're a bunch of chokers (It all started getting shakey after Carra and Skrtel clashed vs Spurs).
Who are the wingers and strikers we should have bought (alwyas easier with hindsight but without any more money, who?). I presume that spending the Xabi money there means you'd be happy with the midfield resources we currently have?
Aquilani is recovering from injury, I'll forgive Raffa for not breaking him as soon as he unwraps him like some cheap present from the market your uncle Dave gave you for christmas. It's not that he doesn't want to use him.
