Whatever system you employ if the players don't do their jobs effectively you will concede goals and that's our problem at defending set pieces

Atm i'm not liking Dirk too much either tbhOriginally posted by vonk View Post
Marky, your dislike for Insua as a player is funny sometimes.
I'd love to know your thoughts on Dirk....
in saying that i still back him to get us a goal or produce something but he doesn't have the same sharpness in his game as he did this time last year and that's worrying.
He maybe needs a knock in a few goals/assist to get going."Let me say for the record, I am not a gangster and never have been. Im not the thief who grabs your purse. Im not the guy who jacks your car. Im not down with the people who steal and hurt others. Im just a brother who fight back."

So the players, operating the system has nothing to do with it? The system worked well in previous years. If the players don't do their jobs well, man marking or zonal marking systems don't matter, you will concede goals either wayOriginally posted by ValueFinder View PostOur defensive problems are due to Benitez and his super zonal marking. Nothing else. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

The players can't operate the system. That's my point. And stubborn Benitez won't accept this.
It's not a system designed for the PL anyway. It works in Spain because there isn't too much aerial threat.
Check the stats. Over half the goals LFC have shipped this season have been from set pieces. Disgraceful.
More goals than any premiership team and when you take into account they don't give away as many corners or as most.....

So all the other season when we have had the best or one of the best set piece defences don't count then?Originally posted by ValueFinder View PostThe players can't operate the system. That's my point. And stubborn Benitez won't accept this.

I still canot believe that guy had a free header yesterday for the goal. Nothing to do with zonal marking was just ****e defending.
Just because the system is zonal doesnt mean you can't be aware of the opposing players in your zone. Zonal marking done correctly eliminates all danger. Skrtel should have read the flight of the corner, taken a nice run-up from the goal line and headed it from here to Wisconsin. He was half asleep and Reina knew it.
