I'm confused why players can be the discussion of being shipped out when they arent performing but a manager is immune to that rule. If you're not doing the job properly you go. Like any other job.

Because you only have one manager at a time and is harder to replace??Originally posted by vlahka View PostI'm confused why players can be the discussion of being shipped out when they arent performing but a manager is immune to that rule. Plus you don't get any fees for a manager out.

Who?Originally posted by destinydude View PostI have changed my mind and the man needs to go.
His ego has gotten to a point where he clearly wants Lucas in team even if the team doesnt win. Why O Why else would he disturb the 4-4-2 he played against Wigan which got us 2 points to 2 DM's against Portsmouth.
Houllier got the sack because of blatant player favouritism (read Baros,Biscan for Heskey,Murphy etc) and it crippled the team and got ultimately sacked at the end.
Ratfa is doing the same (Persisting with Lucas and Kuyt regardless of the result when he shud play a play maker or someone who creates chances playing at CM and not dropping Kuyt even tho he's been woeful.)
If you mean Aquilani at CM, well he's not been fit. Now we can blame Rafa for signing an injured player, but I'm not sure we can for not playing an injured one.
And who would you play instead of Kuyt? The rest of them have also been useless when played.
And I'm not really all that convinced about the "blatant player favouritism" thing. I thought Houllier got sacked primarily because of results. And performances. That squad really wasn't up to all that much whoever he played. Anyway, its pretty reductive imo to talk about favourites, of course managers have players they prefer over others, they work with them every day and always play those whom they genuinely believe give the team the best chance of winning a game. Now they might be wrong in that belief (by definition, every time one manager wins another loses), but if you seriously think any manager in the history of football ever would rather play a certain player than win... let alone one who is so frequently seen as ruthless and cold with players as Rafa... then I think you're very wrong.
Besides, we're not losing games and playing crap because of individual players, however easy it is to use them as scapegoats. Name one of our outfield players that's actually playing well at the moment? The issue is with the collective I reckon.I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?

to be pedantic i think we can. he continues to play gerard with groin injections every week and the same with torres and his hamstring/groin/hernia problems. riera and yossi both have hamstring issues but plays them too. the only injured one not to play is the one we need the most....aqua - a midfeilder who looks like he wants to play a bit of attacking, quick attractive almost football.Originally posted by MrMichael View PostWho?

Replacing a manager is no different to a player. You search for the ones you're interested in, start talking to them, get the one you decide on after. No different to how we got Rafa when Houllier was booted out.Originally posted by fah-q View PostBecause you only have one manager at a time and is harder to replace??

****ing pointless to bump up this thread again. It's as simple as doing a poll on the popularity of a government at a point in time when it's at its lowest.

According to most reports his downfall at Barcelona was that he couldn't enforce discipline on what was at the time the most talented group of players on the planet. Ten Cate was the guy that managed the egos by all accounts and when he left it was all downhill.Originally posted by dww View PostI personally think he falls into the category of a manager who would require a setup around him in terms of coaches etc that he could manage to really thrive. His biggest assets seem to be his willingness to play attacking football and his managing of big egos. On the negative side when his coaching staff changed he had real trouble at Barcelona with an exceptional squad. There is nothing wrong with that style of manager but they do need to have loyal lieutenants (see Martin O'Neill for example) and Rijkaard doesn't seem to.
I still think Rafa is the answer. If he goes though we may have to look at a risk in the managerial role but giving Dalglish some sort of oversight role (director of football or similar).

Sid Lowe, I thought although I may misremember, seemed to say that Rijkaard had managed the egos well but lost their respect when he had more control of training and things were going 'badly'. I guess it's difficult to know but in his other jobs Ten Cate has had a terrible reputation managing people.Originally posted by BrianF80 View PostAccording to most reports his downfall at Barcelona was that he couldn't enforce discipline on what was at the time the most talented group of players on the planet.
