i said it at the time that warnock was better than the 1.5m we sold him for - look at the likes of united - they get 6m or whatever for frazier campbell and we get a quarter of that for a good left back that had been part of the england squad at one time while he was at liverpool. I wouldn't mind us selling the likes of warnock if we had gone out and signed a top top player - somebody like Philip Lahm - but we didn't! I would much much prefer to see us play players like warnock and keep all our money for signing top players - i mean we spunk 5 to 6m on players like dossena who is a pile of ****e (i think it was 6.8m actually) whereas warnock would be a better player..... had we not spunked that 6.8 on the fat italian, then we could have steered clear of riera as well and went out and got somebody decent of left wing - put it this way, i'd prefer a left side of Warnock and Silva instead of Dossena and Riera!!!!!

He's worse than any of our left-backs.
Saw a Villa forum yesterday which made me laugh. It's traditional for them to have a thread with people picking combined teams from themselves and their opposition. Every single ****er had Warnock at left back. In fact 95% of them had the ENTIRE Villa back four, with most opting for Friedel!
In fact some teams had nine Villa players plus Torres & Gerrard.

Yeah, but look at it this way Shaggy, Warnock was matched up against kuyt, and Kuyt didn't get the other side of him once all night. Now we know that Kuyt never gets the other side of anyone on his own, so we expect that and watch an opposition left back for other things. From a Villa point of view though, I can see why a lot of them would think he did a very good job killing our attacks from that side. I can remember about 2 decent crosses being made from our right all game.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostHe's worse than any of our left-backs.

That kind of applies to the rest of their team as well, especially the back 4. Cuellar was rubbish, but the rest really did restrict us to very little dangerous play in their box. And how many corners did they clear easily? Again, we know that every team clears all our corners easily, and that we really don't create that much in opposition danger areas on current form, but from their perspective I can see why Villa fans would think they had a good game defensively.I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?

The teams they were picking were not based on last night's game, but in the build up to the game, as in a combined XI from both teams!Originally posted by MrMichael View PostYeah, but look at it this way Shaggy, Warnock was matched up against kuyt, and Kuyt didn't get the other side of him once all night. It was easy to nullify us on the right hand side because our left side was non existant, if we had been able to field Riera last night we would have had Villa all over the place, that Cuellar lad is complete horse ****.Originally posted by MrMichael View PostYeah, but look at it this way Shaggy, Warnock was matched up against kuyt, and Kuyt didn't get the other side of him once all night. Warnock was just a decent squad player, no more no less. No-one I know was sorry to see him go. He's not really top class. Just look at yesterday's game. Insua, a kid by comparison, was far more impressive. When he was with us he was forever being drawn out of position. I remember the game when we lost at Southampton when Crouch scored and that was a classic example. He was so out of position that the centre backs were constantly stretched to cover for him and Pellegrino took all the flak. If Warnock got into the England squad again it would be more of a reflection of the paucity of talent in that position rather than of his ability

yes i am seethingOriginally posted by tommyg View PostI think he's a great player, the kind of person who i believe could have gone on to be a great and held down his position for years to come
but seriously i think he could have been a good player for us or at least a valuable squad player....... good luck to him anyway
