But with 70 minutes against Fiorentina and 30ish against Arsenal, a home game against Wigan would have been ideal.

I was expecting to see him start against Arsenal, if he doesn't start the next one I'll be pissed off because we've been crying out for something different and we've got £20m worth of player sat on the bench looking bemused.
We conceded after Aquilani came on, it's a good job Rafa waited till we scored the second before bringing him on, maybe he knows what he's doing.

It's not like we haven't conceded plenty when he's not been on the pitch though. Was the goal Aquilani's fault?

Genuine question 'cos I didnt see the game.

****ing hell, there is a different between being fit and being match ready...i'm fit, but i sure as hell ain't ready to play 90 minutes in a competitive football match. It'll be the same for Aqualani, who has been out for 8 months, and who previously has stated that he feels Roma brought him back from injury too soon, hence the recurring injuries that he kept receiving. I expect he's quite pleased that he's being well looked after, cos he would rather be playing than on the treatment table again. All you have to do is look at his injury record at Roma to see the hazards of rushing a player back.

            the aquiliani conundrum is difficult.

there is no doubt, we are struggling for confidence and the fact that aquiliani will make our midfield weaker but more offensive is a difficult balancing act.

There is no doubt when we string a couple of games on the bounce i am sure he will start to get an opportunity.

Its not that Rafa doesnt fancy him, more we have to change our fornation to suit......

              He'll start at Pompey.
              So will Torres.
              So will SG.

              And we'll win.
              And it will be good.
              And all around will rejoice.

And behold the ghosts of our recent form will but a distant memory.
And we will march onward, the way Liverpool march forward.

And we will get back what was always ours.

No way will Aquilani start at Pompey IMO.

Wasn't his fault but we did lose some presence when he came on. The point is, its not just about Aquilani, we need to win the game as well.

Not sure who exactly was at fault as it came very late in the game, think it was 1 minute 30 into extra time and we perahps switched off a little .. that said Nzogbia skipped past 3 defenders to slot in a perfect shot from outside the box ... it was just a good goal and we did not want to lay into him on the edge of the box when the chances of him scoring were not that good ... they were wrong cracking goal cracking player

And you don't get match fit sitting on a bench. I'm not saying he's up to playing 90 minutes yet but more rest isn't going to get him there.

I'm fine with the cautious approach, it's just overly cautious because if he's not fit to play an hour then he wouldn't have done so against Fiorentinal.

So you would be happy for Aquilani to get match fit at the expense of the the game?

Which is the point that many posters have been making for a while.

I was going to post the exact same thing but I feel like we're going around in circles with the Aquilani issue now.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
