Yes, yes I know that the HS bits stand for Hong Kong and Shanghai - as I mentioned previously about it's acronym. Actually you're wrong and I was and am right. HSBC's HQ was in Hong Kong previously but moved to London as part of the deal that led to its taking over Midland Bank. I can't remember the exact date, but it's been London-based since at least the early 1990s and it's still in London - Canada Square in fact, the Canary Wharf area. So it's British aspect is that...er...it's based in BritainOriginally posted by Nicey View PostActually its not.. the Asian bits stand for Hong Kong and Shanghai, Hong Kong were it was founded 1865, Hong Kong were its operational Headquarters are, Hong Kong were it recently shipped all its gold bullion Reserves too from London. Lodon were it moved its Headquartes to back in the 90's i think temporally to facilitate substantial Mergers and Acquisition deal, i believe.
But at the end of the day its a Bank or thee bank, the only British aspect of it, is it was formed in a old now defunct British colony, tenuous at best I would say.
Back on point .. I think Cathay Pacific has to be one of the main contenders if it is indeed an Asian Company

Originally posted by RedReet View PostFor a couple of weeks maybe, but once it's built and constantly referred to as something else, that will become more familar. Anfiled will be Anfield and our new stadium will be.... (hopefully none of the above). I’m sure Arsenal supporters all said the same.
Christ I hope you're not comparing Anfield to whatever the arse's ****hole used to be called!!!! Anfield is where legends are made - it's one of the few grounds that will be remembered forever wherever football is played.
When and if we get a new stadium Anfield must live on and any LFC fan who forgets this heritage will never get a beer out of me!
Liverpool will always play at Anfield, and I don't care what they call it on the telly or in the papers. Don't give in to the marketing ****s - take their money by all means but, 'kinell, LFC must always play at Anfield.
Eh?

Eh?
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?

Look, I actually agree with what your saying. I don’t want to labour the point, but regardless of how famous Anfield is, regardless of how sentimental our fans our, I honestly feel that after a while everyone will recognise the new stadium under it’s new name, it’s human nature. It may even get to the point were people intentionally disassociate our new stadium and ownership from Anfield and everything it stood for. If the owners can agree with the new sponsors to somehow incorporate Anfield into the new name that will be a different story, but if it’s completely unrelated, the Anfield association will only last so long.Originally posted by mick the click View PostChrist I hope you're not comparing Anfield to whatever the arse's ****hole used to be called!!!! I’m not saying Anfield will be forgot about, of course it wouldn’t. The boot room was done away with, but people still talk about it’s traditions and values. Anfield will always be associated with LFC and vice versa, but people referring to ‘The Weetabix Stadium’ or whatever as ‘New Anfield’ will be short-lived if you ask me.
Hopefully I'll be proven wrong. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I just like the idea of keeping Anfield in the name as the stadium is in the same area, and it provides a link to our pastThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
