Problem I have is after over 5 years I still can't decide if Rafa is the real deal or not. Yes he had success at Valencia, and I had the joy of watching that team at Anfield. However, he never built that team it was in place thanks to Hector Cuper. We have, apart from at the end of last season, never come close to emulating that team.

And yes we had Istanbul, which was effectively Houlliers team + Alonso. And he has given us up until now great nights in Europe and champions league football. However we have never addressed the problems we have had since the days of Roy Evans.
That side on its day was fantastic , could beat anyone. However, a bottom half team would come to Anfield and shut up shop and we were clueless. This still seems to be the case.

Then we have this idea that Rafa is some tactical guru!! if that is the case how come Steve Bruce seems to be able to outdo him nearly every season + tonight (and last Saturday) some chap who has only managed Readings reserve side has totally out-thought him as two examples???? Plus he doesn't seem to react to situations (we keep playign the same system even though Gerrard and Torres are injured). I think the answer to that is that Rafa is a tactical when we are the underdog.

Transferwise I have not always understood the guy. Was Murphy really a poorer player than Sissoko, Zenden and Lucas. Smicer worse than Gonzalez, Nunez???
Finally why do we look like a collection of individuals rather than a team after 5 years????

Anyway having said that I do hope he proves me wrong turns it around and finishes in the top 4 and takes us on from here!

Anyone else find rafa's interview a bit odd? More odd than just the familiar awkward questions after a **** performance.

If he's to go, get rid of him now so the rest of this season can be used for a new manager to get settled. Our season is already over so I see no
risk in putting someone else in now.

At the end of the day we are ****ed, Kenny isn't good enough to take over he hasn't managed for about 10 years ffs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Rafa's interview was very uncomfortable. Red faced, quiet and sheepish. Almost incoherent. Not his usual self at all.
Someone said in this thread that SOS are a joke and to be honest I agree with that. But they will use Rafa as a pawn against the owners if he gets the sack.

It will be more bad publicity than we can handle at the moment with the supposed new investment and the start of the stadium. We need a period of stability off the pitch for the good of the club.

Sacking rafa is probably the right thing to do in football terms but not politically speaking.

Yeah, but it would only be for the remainder of the season. Four months.

He would have an istant impact too.

Then take stock and reassess everything in the summer.

I honestly don't know what to think anymore. It's like watching some actors play Liverpool. This isn't real, is it?

Who though? Everyone decent is in a job bar Hiddink, and he's hardly going to want to take over with no money to spend and in the position we are in now.

I'm almost ashamed to say the first thing I thought was this. Had there been a half time row? It seemed very strange and the only thing that allayed my fears was the appearance of Gerrard to watch the 2nd half. Still seems a bit fishy though...

Also Rafa looked almost in tears in his interview, maybe something was said at half time? Or before he came out the dressing room.
