Is it a coincidence that both Hodgson and Pellegrini are pretty much free agents as managers and we wouldn't need to pay huge compensation to their clubs? I doubt it
Pellegrini eh? I'd rather we got Hodgson if it were a straight choice, not sure who'd be the better long term option but in the short term I think I'd much rather we didn't bring in another manager who will take a season or so to "get used to English football".
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?

As opposed to a manager who would have to get used to the expectation of occasionally winning away?

I'm far from convinced by Pellegrini. I certainly don't think one season at Real where he got 96 points yet still failed to win the league is as much of a recommendation as some seem to feel. It might just be a comment on how weak the Spanish league is, or at least was then.
He did well at Villareal obviously but it's not unreasonable to see them as the Fulham of La Liga. The entire population of the town would fit into Anfield - Liverpool would be a very different job.
. Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
The problem is none of the candidates are suitable for what we'd like because we don't want the club to be in the state it is.

Manuel Pellegrini's Agent Confirms Liverpool Talks
Chilean close to Anfield job...

Former Villarreal and Real Madrid manager Manuel Pellegrini is in discussions with Liverpool, his representative has confirmed.
The Chilean boss has been out of work since being sacked by Madrid at the end of last season after failing to guide them to success in La Liga and the Champions League.
Reports in England on Thursday stated Pellegrini was a serious candidate to take over from Rafael Benitez at Liverpool, and his agent has now revealed there is more to it than just paper talk.
"We are evaluating the move and will soon have a new meeting to better establish the details of this deal," Marco Piccioli told The Scum-newspaper.
Kenny Dalglish, who is working with the Reds' academy, and Fulham boss Roy Hodgson are the other two serious canditates to assume the reigns at Anfield.

To be fair to him he got to the quarter finals of the CL with Villareal and finished second in the league. I think it is reasonable to say that if they are the Fulham of La Liga then Pellegrini did a better job with them than Hodgson has done with Fulham.
As yo say none of the options will be really what we want. However, I feel that in order to be given a decent chance by the fans a manager will have to either have credit on his side (Dalglish) or be overtly more attacking than Rafa was and Pellegrini is much closer to that than Hodgson.

I suppose his experience at Real would probably be useful too and put him ahead of Woy.
