It'll never happen and probably never work but i can dream

i feel a young, fresh confident manager would be a good step, I like bilic, and thought why the hell not throw in 3 ex legends who I think would be brilliant for us at the moment.

In fact - i'd throw in Marcus Babbel to help with the defensive coaching and Jari Litmanen for the attacking department.

So Bilic as manager

didi and gary mac sorting the midfield

and jari sorting the strikers witht the help off......er rush fowler and dalglish!!!

all working together pulling in the same direction with the ultimate goal of making us invincible.

Added to the fact that Bill Gates donates £1bn for the management team for the heck of it - none going to the owners, it's purerly for stadium, transfer funds and free season tickets in the executive box for moderators of lfc forums who live on merseyside, plus free and pies and pints for a season for all match goers, i don't know why - er, because he hates hicks and wants to piss him off.

He also said that Rafa is looking for reasons to stay, but one problem is the expectancy and that if people keep talking about winning the league he will be off as the club is not what it was. If he stays he will stay to put together a squad to fight for 4th and that is all that can be expected.

He then said that he thinks Torres is looking around at other clubs but will wait to see what happens with our ownership. He said that Citeh are the only club that have shown him the same level of interest as we did, but that he would not go there.

Spot on! Without serious investement in the first team squad, we're not going to be anywhere near challenging for the title in the next 5 years. Especially if we're going down the road of selling Gerrard and Torres. It would be a miracle if we made the top 4 next year as it is. Its the best we can hope for in the near future I reckon

to be honest i don't even think we can challenge/fight for 4th without serious investment!!

we need say £60m to spend on teh three positions everyone seems to agree on (left back, winger, striker) with no major players leaving just to get ourselves back on track - - for that to happen right now is major investment for us

anything better is a miracle

It all depends on what we can raise through moving on the deadwood in the squad though. We should be able to get £20m-£25m for the likes of Babel, Riera, Skrtel and Degen. And if we can get those 3 positions filled for say £40m then surely the net spend is achievable?

I don't think we do need to spend that money to get us back on track for fourth. It will be hard but I think that replacing Babel and Riera with players who a/ contributed and b/ complemented the rest of our squad is very possible on a smaller budget and the only necessary addition is a left back. We would still be a bit short of numbers but with some of the younger players developing it might become less of an issue.

I do agree with everyone who says that without investment (and almost as importantly a sense of stability at the club) it will be very difficult to challenge for the league. Realistically our only hope if for all of City, United, Chelsea and Arsenal to fail in the rebuilding they need, Spurs to fail to strengthen and us to make three perfect transfers which is a massive long shot on pretty much all counts.

It may sound foolish given the season we've had but I still believe our team (first 11) is better than that of Spurs or Man City. The problem is the have more strength an depth. We've had a disproportionally large number of injuries this season which have exposed our lack of strength in our most vulnerable areas. I think if we can address these problems we will be in the battle for 4th as long as we don't get a larger than average number of injuries. We are better than we showed this season

Obviously it also depends what the other clubs have to spend in comparison to us (and how wisely they spend it). BUt as far as I'm concerned a title push would require a large investment in the squad. But being in the battle for 4th is realistic IMO
