Liverpool FC midfielder Maxi Rodriguez has praised his Anfield colleague Javier Mascherano, claiming his compatriot is an inspiration on and off the pitch. The Argentina captain is allegedly on the verge of agreeing a new deal at the club, and Maxi believes it would a major boost for Rafa Benitez as the club bid to fight of stiff competition from Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and Aston Villa in the race for fourth place in the Premier League.
Liverpool FC are currently in sixth, three points behind Tottenham Hotspur and four behind Manchester City, and news of Mascherano’s pending commitment to the club, in a week when both Rafa Benitez and Fernando Torres questioned the club’s direction, would be a major boost for the Anfield club.
Maxi confirmed his Liverpool FC colleague was close to agreeing a new deal, less than 6 months after he was strongly linked with a move to Barcelona, and suggested the former West Ham midfielder’s presence would be an inspiration for many years to come.
The Liverpool FC midfielder told the club’s official television channel: “Javier is a fantastic player and when he signs his contract it will be great news for the club,"
"He is also fantastic to have in the dressing room and he is an inspiration.”
"He loves playing for Liverpool in front of these wonderful supporters and is very happy to play for the club for a long time to come."
