We're getting good young talent in. That's a good thing
Exactly- the OP has over-analysed the wrong end of the stick imo...

I think the main reason these two transfers stick out compared to normal is because they're English. This is the main talking point imo (rather than theorising about unknown transfer policy), like someone mentioned it's likely to be due to the new rules coming into play. It does feel better than the Insua & N'gog transfers did at the time, probably because much more is known about them on these shores.
    Hello mert.

I think now that we've got King Kenny back and the guy who developed alot of the Barca talent, coupled with young players getting a chance (Ngog and Insua) and the friction between the academy and melwood sorted. I think we are now in a strong position to bring in some of the best young talent around.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

It is amazing how bringing young players can be turned into something to worry or complain at on this board.

It's a very good sign that the next generation of exciting young prospects are so strongly attracted by LFC, and this is a major plus for us.

The key point with players of this kind of age, isnt so much about winning Youth Cups or Academy Leagues, the objective is that these lads develop and over the course of time, reach the level whereby they can graduate into the first team, play for the club and hold their own, or better.

Youth development is something i feel we could do with improving upon as a club. Signing them is step one, but developing them and seeing them evolve into valuable members of the first team squad, is the ultimate point of the exercise and this is an area we've struggled with a little over the past decade.

I hope lads like Sterling and Shelvey represent an upturn in fortunes for us, when it comes to seeing kids turn into first teamers and ultimately save us huge amounts of money in the future.

                  .
That's the point exactly. I must say both these signings have really surprised me as I've just not been used to us doing this type of deal. If the Danny Wilson one comes off too then that'll be three really exciting prospects.

One thing arises from all this - are we getting these boys in BECAUSE people know the future is bright?

He is still only 16 so he is part of the scholarship set up for the youth team.

maybe it ties in with Ferguson increasingly senile behaviour at OT, and maybe of all the top 4 clubs we seem to be the one the most focussed on Youth development?

I suppose it is unsurprising that Rafa is willing to put more money/effort into expensive youth recruitment now that he has control of the system. It would be interesting to see what had swayed the decision of the players choosing to come here as so many things have altered of late.

this thread wasnt meant to be a moan about young players coming in because to do so would be completely ridiculous and absurd - especially ones as talented as these.

Considering the fact that we have seriously compromised our revenue streams by not qualifying for the CL (its a formality). So the first team may not see any more major investment and its a case of we have to do with what we've got.

My whole point was are we taking a more mid - long term view of the first team and are the days of signing 'big' players like torres, johnson, masherano and aquilani going to become rarer because we dont have the finances ?

Are we being forced to rely on kids coming through ?
