we wont keep them all though mascherano is a goner id say i cant see us getting another season out of him and im really not sure about torres if we dont make good enough signings then he'll be off to
I hope we get Javi Mar then. He is a cracking box to box player and is a beast physically.
Why not 3 midfield places and 4 midfielders, to be honest we could do with another midfield for 5 challenging for 3 places.
I still find it odd that people seem to want us to only have XI players good enough to make the team. Anytime we are so much as linked to a decent squad player people seem convinced that a starter must be off. We need to get a squad together where we have options and cover.

But in all honesty Dave, centre mid is the one area that we need to strengthen the least considering our current financial situation. Wide areas, a new striker and a LB are far more important areas IMO.
I like him and think he started showing more of what we can expect from him. He chipped in with some good goals, and was starting to provide plenty of assists. With a season in England under his belt and a summer to rest his ankle fully, i'm expecting big things from him next season.

Totally agree. To think that we would off load him after 1 season is absurd IMO. I expect big things from the lad next yr and hope he stays fit.

I'm not really sure about this. We need to make a team that links together well. At the minute the main axis in that is off and most formations requiring three CMs these days the bare minimum in a squad looking even for European football has to be four surely?
The context of me former comment was that of someone saying we wouldn't keep the four CMs we have. Which I think in terms of the numbers if not the individuals is a real mistake. We need to have that level of cometition (and options) or we really will struggle.
There is a question about whether we have the right four CMs in the main squad to complement one another but to argue that we should further weaken the centre of the team to shore up other areas seems counter intuitive.
I think the only question should be "Is Aquilani good enough and the right fit for English football?". If anyone thinks that we would get enough money for him to replace him as one of the four CMs we need and fill one of the slots you talk about then I think they are wrong. If thats not what we get for him then I don't see the justification of selling him to fix somewhere else as that just leaves us weak in the middle, especially if Gerarrd has another injury plagued season.

Aqua playing more matches with his team mates should help out here

Agree and that was not my intention to sell Cm's to strengthen the positions I mentioned. I want the sugar daddies to get their check books out before they leave

I agree. I think he has a big future with us and it would be a mistake to sell, regardless of how much was offered, unless it was an obscene amount
