in terms of fixtures some teams are slow starters. the scum tend to be like this some have **** times at xmas etc the thing is to try to play most teams when they are in a rut.

it could be that we start well and a couple tht we play start badly in that case its an ok fixture start

they could start well and we could start badly then its a **** fixture start we wont know till its happened though

When is our first fixture (Europa League Qualifier ) likely to be? Isn't it ~2weeks after the end of the world cup?

I've put them all in ical format for those that want to import them into Outlook. Have moved games to sundays based on the assumption that we get into the Europa League group stages. God knows we need to !! Included are Carling Cup, FA Cup and all Europa League dates (based on last seasons comp so some might be wrong)

Enjoy and let me know if theres any errors.

I'd rather we didnt get into the Europa Cup group stages.

Sooner we go out, the better.

I'd be tempted to play a reserve team in the Europa League as a chance to give some of the kids some experience. If we get to quarter finals maybe we could start taking it seriously depending on how the league season is going.

My original point though was relating to the amount of time we have to get a manager and new players sorted out, and develop plans of the new season.

We'll probably have to do that in the league as well

Because we already barely have a squad to challenge for a top four place, let alone with daft additional thursday night games to add to the load.

Dont hold any value in it at all.

I'm sure, being far more expert than anyone else though, you'll set me right.

Fair enough, that is possible, it could also help the team if we do well in too. It isn't a easy one to judge.

I just dont really care too much about the Uefa Cup, let alone the fact that we're nowhere near equipped enough to bother about it.

I don't think there is much point in playing an entire reserve team but I agree we do need to use it to develop a stronger squad. It could be used to rest some of the less durable players. The trouble is that many of those combine to form key units (i.e Agger and Carragher at the back, Gerrard and Torres, hopefully, in attack).

I think the failure to appoint a manager early is a problem for us no matter what. We seem to be deliberately minimising the time to get players in and plan any change in style. Madness if you ask me.

With a decent manager and a reasonable period of time to sort things I would be quite happy with Arsenal up first. We'd be a bit of an unknown quantity and might catch them cold with our players looking to make an impression at home at the start of the season.
