Craig, Rooney was £27m, but Ratboy was £28m from Leeds- was £18m from WHam to Leeds.

    Poor.
    3rd place. Worst champions ever.

In recent years that fact that we have had two or three in the squad and often fewer on the pitch has been a problem in my eyes. Potentially someone like Cole could help the likes of Kuyt and Jovanovic become more dangerous and that would be excellent. A lot depends on how those two and Ngog can back up Gerrard and Torres in that department I think.
True, can't argue with that, as you say (sort of) perhaps having 7 defensive players plus 2 wide men who weren't a huge goal threat in the line-up didn't help last season.

Luck plays a massive part, before signing Cantona, Ferguson tried to sign David Hirst from Sheff Wed, he then got injured and he went to Cantona as at least a 2nd choice option.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Jamie Carragher believes the signing of Joe Cole sends a message to the rest of English football that Liverpool mean business in 2010-11.

Cole flew out to our Swiss training camp to undergo a medical last night after agreeing a four-year deal at Anfield.

Carragher believes his acquisition has given the Red half of the city a much-needed boost - but he thinks the deal's impact will be felt way beyond L4.

"It's great news and it is a message that Liverpool mean business," said the 32-year-old, who returns to Melwood to begin pre-season training today after a three-week rest.

"We have signed a top international player who has been really important for Chelsea.

"A lot of clubs wanted to sign him but it is a real coup that he has chosen to come here and you have got to give the manager and the board a pat on the back for convincing him to come here.

"Every supporter that I have spoken to is absolutely delighted and all the players are the same - it's given everyone a boost, just at the right time.

"It has been a long summer and we have been in a transitional period but now the World Cup is out of the way, we can start to look forward again.

"Joe is a player who has the ability to get supporters off their seats and I've no doubt he will do that here; the fact we have got him has given everyone a boost around the city.

"It's good news again and, hopefully, there will be more to come. It's the kind of signing that we needed to make."

Carragher has had many tussles with Cole over the years and the two know each other well from international duty with England.

The vice-captain reckons the new boy will have a massive effect of Liverpool's chances next term.

He said: "Joe is someone I have known for a long time from playing with England. He is a great lad to have around the squad, he mixes well and is a lively character - he's also an outstanding footballer.

"In the modern game, you need forwards that can function in two or three different positions and Joe will do that, no problem at all. He can play on the right, through the middle or on the left."

Carragher will be joined at Melwood today by England colleagues Steven Gerrard and Glen Johnson. The trio will be given individual programmes to get them in the best possible condition before they are reunited with the rest of the squad upon their return from Switzerland.

Myself and Craig are the only ones that can read that again with a smug smile. Literally the entire forum called him a **** and overrated but seems to not be the case now we have signed him

And I didn't see him dive once watching the last England game - in fact there were a few times he could have probably gone down but didn't. And we are being somewhat hypocritical when our captain is getting a bad rep recently for going down a little easily......

For me, Cole behind Torres =

                Always rated him.

I think you'll find 90% of those posters aren't here anymore and Craig's posts contribute to around 90% of that thread.

My missus is made up anyway, which is a big plus for watching the games next season.

"Oh so now he's playing for Liverpool, he's ok"?

Craig is 90% Est and Shaggy (in various roles) is the other 10%. We are but a drop in the ocean.

Id say Craig and Shaggy are 40% each while the rest of us make up the remaining 20%

A lot of bitterness coming from Chav, Citeh and Spurs fans about how overrated Cole is and how he's joined a club in decline, which is nice, shows they are hurting....and reeeeeeally wanted him to stay\sign.
