No, he doesn't. That is just to qualify him for UEFA U-21 squads. The rule for homegrown players is different. The homegrown rule states he must be 21 at the season start, and for 3 complete seasons.

It's in the rules, but it doesn't make it clear, hence all the confusion.

Either way, the initial post highlights an incredibly poor squad.

right - i think i may have cracked it though feel free to add/edit/change anything that maybe wrong so we can finally get this sorted

right - my understanding of all this, having just finished this lunchtime, my NVQ in Squad Management for Premier League 2010 is.....

1 - you need to name a 25 man squad for the Premier League
2 - 8 of that squad must be home grown - (to qualify as home grown, they must have played in England or Wales for a minimum of 3 years before they turned 21)
3 - any players under the age of 21, regardless of nationality or how long they have been here, don't have to be registered, and can play.

So off the top of my head, let me know if i've miss anyone and we should get this sorted

Players Under 21 who don't need to be registered (9 players named, there is prob more but they are way off being ready)

Wilson
Shelvey
ecclestone
Pacecho
Dalla valle

Players classed as home grown (6 players)

Imo you want to be able to fill your 25 quota without naming any of the under 21's - if i understand this correctly, it means you have a bigger suqad eligible

So - as it stands - we currently can name a squad of 21 players with 6 being classed as home grown. We then need to find another two players to be home grown - we have two choices, we could for the sake of it name Kelly and Eccleston to get us the quota on homegrown or we go out and sign more established players to fill the quota.

For me though I think though, in an ideal world, to get the most out of it, as i say you don't want to name any under 21's in the 25 because they can play anyway - we would want to sign two players who qualify as home grown - for arguments sake we sign Wayne Bridge and Craig Bellamy - which would give us a 23 man squad, the home grown quota reached, and still room for two foriegn imports - again for arguements sake, Arda Turan and Taiwo.

Then we would have a 25 man squad, with 8 home grown players, and that list of 9 youngsters also eligible

This sums up the situation perfectly.

Looking through the list, the interesting thing is who will still be here when the seasons starts. I think Spearing, Cavalieri, babel and one from Skrtel/Kyriakos might still be sold...

First thoughts

To be fair to us – under 21’s thats not a bad list of 10 players, be interesting to see how other teams compare (not included nemeth as i think he’ll go)

Out of that list – i’d expect or at least hope, that Kelly, Wilson, Shelvey, Pacheco and ngog will offer something to the squad this year.

I would through Tom Ince in that list too, i reckon he could be a great player in the future
