Was just watching some videos and found one of the highlights of Aquilani with just last season. Can't help but feel that watching a video is like watching one of Alonso, we are really begging out for a player of their kind (yes they are different). After the dust has settled on the transfer window and I have started to doubt roy a little I can't help but feel that he was a bit hasty in releasing Aquilani, I think he seriously had a future here. We still could have have meireles who's transfer was payed for my the Masch money anyway...

From what I've seen of Aquilani, he has the talent to boss games. He hasn't showed it consistently enough because of his stop-start season last term but he should have been given at least 6 months to show his worth, then loaned out in January if he hadn't proved anything by then.

Obviously, it seems there are people at the club who took some decisions in spite of the manager. I don't think Hodgson had anything to do with his transfer. He was seen as one player associated with what was bad with the previous regime and he was shafted out pronto. Same could be said of Insua.
      Are we winning?

I thought the general consesus was that Roy 'didn't have plans for him'. The way I see it, we are going to have new owners soon so why would we care if he lost 6 mil in value after a bad season here... We should have kept him here as another option, owning the contract of a player who is better then half your squad and then loaning him out, even despite a poor injury record, is ridiculous...

Alberto Aquilani has revealed that Inter Milan were interested in signing him from Liverpool over the summer.

The Italian midfielder returned to his homeland in August after a difficult first year at Anfield, joining Juventus on a season-long loan.

He has since declared that he hopes to earn a permanent deal with the Bianconeri, having been a peripheral figure with Liverpool.
Rafa Benitez brought him to Merseyside but seemed to find it difficult to integrate him into the Reds side, with fitness problems hampering the 26-year-old's progress.

Aquilani has now claimed that Benitez was keen to take him to Inter after leaving Liverpool for the Giuseppe Meazza, although there was never an official offer.

He told Mediaset Premium: "Inter wanted me this summer, they tried to get me. There was something, but nothing more."

          Good memories

Aquilani maintains that he looks back with fondness at his time with Liverpool, and has backed Benitez to be successful in his new role.

"Last season with Liverpool has been positive for me, despite the injury, although it is not easy to adapt to a different style of football," he explained.

"I had a good relationship with the fans and I would have remained with pleasure, but some things convinced me to change and I'm very happy to have arrived at Juventus.

"I have good memories of Benitez. He allowed me to go to an important club like Liverpool.

"He's a very important coach who will do very well at Inter. To replace Mourinho would be difficult for anyone but Benitez is tough and the right man for Inter."

Aquilani is nowhere near Alonso, not in his wildest dreams.

Aquilani is more on par with Aurelio

I reckon that's spot on and even more I'd suggest it'll be the work of Purslow.

TBH, whilst i'm not keen on players having to be loaned out to save on wages, i'll look on the bright side and be grateful that it wasnt a player whose absence i've particularly noticed.

Assume so. After all, the press said Aquilani was a flop and we know that's where Purslow gets his advice from.
